    Repainting of Epcot Central Plaza?

There were much more expressive designs for Communicore but the designers of the park decided on the final form for a reason. I think it was ultimately decided that the Communicore buildings were to be understated in order to balance the character of the more ambitious pavilions around them...

    Repainting of Epcot Central Plaza?

I've been looking for that source for the John Hench comment but unfortunately can't find it. I'd like to find it because it continued with some very interesting insights on Epcot and how it was designed. In the meantime, I did find this interesting take on Communicore and its change to...

    Repainting of Epcot Central Plaza?

Ooohh! It has an Internet Cafe!! :geek:

    Repainting of Epcot Central Plaza?

I remember reading a comment from John Hench stating that the outdoor portions of Epcot were designed to be a place of calm reflection to counterpoint the intensity of the shows in the pavilions. That matches very well the Zen idea.

Eddie Sotto's take on the current state of the parks (Part II)

It's a bummer that the Encounter restaurant at LAX has closed. Like Ship's Westwood, it's one of those amazing futuristic places I never managed to get to on my visits to LA. Here's hoping that they can find a way to reopen it.

    The Land balloons

It's been done -- he became CEO of the Gap when things started falling apart at Disney. Needless to say, his time at Gap was a complete disaster.

    The Land balloons

Not everything has to be obvious and in-your-face. It's subtle details like this that can be the most enjoyable at times.

UpStairs Imagination Abandoned 2013- Weird little room

It would be very cool to tie the concept of Imagination to a dining establishment, and I don't mean in a superficial way. Have creative combinations of food or crazy presentations. I'd also love to see an upstairs terrace as depicted in some of the earlier concept renderings added.

    Old Epcot Reflection Pool

The ponds really added a nice quality to the space. With regards to the "bottleneck" they probably considered that guests would also be using the corridors through Commmunicore which have since been incorporated into Innoventions and Mouse Gear.

    Epcot's Continued Sad Condition

I have often wondered about the "dumbing down" of Epcot. If there was an intent to redirect the park into a different concept then one would think it would be pretty obvious. The place would be called "Disney's Discoveryland" or something equally lame. But the current mish-mash of attractions...

    Epcot's Continued Sad Condition

There was a lot of bad design in the 70's but there was also a lot of pretty awesome stuff. EPCOT Center did a really good job staying away from the late-70's "embellishments" and kept with the more clean, contemporary look. Remember, it was being developed during the Age of Disco so things...

    Specific SSE Music

I love listening to the individual music loops, especially for such attractions as Horizons. Each one is like a small gem that captures a particular feeling or emotion -- very much like the score of a movie. I have always enjoyed the Innoventions "theme", especially the more atmospheric portions...

    Epcot's Continued Sad Condition

Thanks for pointing out all those great design features. I'm sure that the team that developed the current attraction thought they were being very clever as well with all the little things that they did to create an "Imagination Institute". Unfortunately it's a product of its time -- when...

Exit through the gift shop- when did that start?

Here's a different one, though on a technicality -- Adventure Thru Inner Space. In the mid 70's it was changed so that one had to exit through the Character Shop -- actually, the Character Shop expanded into the former Monsanto post show so I assume the change happened whenever Monsanto...

    Epcot's Continued Sad Condition

One nice thing about the murals on the ceiling of The Land court is that they related artistically with the balloons. The warmer colors of the umbrellas made a nice counterpoint and grounded the color scheme. Fortunately the balloons are still there though they now have to compete with a sky...

    Epcot's Continued Sad Condition

Following Eddie Sotto's suggestion on his (now closed) thread here I bought and read Marty Sklar's book "Dream It! Do It!". There are some very interesting insights into how the company has changed with regards to how the parks are handled. According to Marty, Walt Disney wanted Park...

    Epcot's Continued Sad Condition

Interesting points. People probably didn't go to the Land just to see the fountain, though it created an important focal point for the space and was probably something that left a positive impression on children. These places are not just made up of the main experiences -- everything needs to...

    Epcot's Continued Sad Condition

The old Land seating layout was cluttered and there really wasn't enough tables but it had a wonderful social quality to it. When you look at pictures of the colorful umbrellas with everyone clustered around them you could almost think of it as a busy farmer's market, (which used to be the...

Make EPCOT that much better by adding...

I love this version of World Showcase which is based on Harper Goff's designs. I like the way that the pavilions engage the promenade more and the walk around the lake becomes more an exploration of the different environments. That being said, there is something about the current promenade...
