IASW started at a World's Fair so that makes a lot of sense.

    Ratatouille in Epcot

I'm pretty sure that Impressions de France takes up about 75% of that big square building with the rest of it necessary for waiting areas and crowd movement. They could possibly have an entrance through the market area (now the expanded bakery) but that might cause a bottleneck of traffic...

Perhaps they could expand the movie streets at DHS and have a French street or plaza for Ratatouille.

    Ratatouille in Epcot

Not saying that these should become attractions in themselves but introducing bits of popular culture in the different countries as a "latest trends" could spice things up in WS. Then we could regard Italians drinking Beverly and think "??". Even though we are all spoiled by the internet...

Excellent discussion and pics of early WS concepts here... TO THE SHOWCASE >>> Edit: I'm happy that Harper Goff got a hold of the WS concept and really made it come to life. One interesting thing to note is how similar Communicore became to the World Showcase buildings.

My niece is heavily into Dr Who. No offense to any fans here but I pretty much dismissed it back in the 70's -- the acting was just too silly for my tastes -- so I am not up on it currently. Is it really a huge thing in Britain? ...or something British that just has become really popular in...

    Ratatouille in Epcot

I'm guessing by the wavy pattern on the ground that his is an early version of Brazil, back from WS was all in a huge circular building. I wonder what that portal to the left of the water feature leads to? ....a boat ride? :)

From what I understand it was a placeholder for a Japan attraction back when WS was placed by the T&T center. Not sure if it was developed further. Someone may know more.

That's very cool. I also wouldn't mind this version of Japan. . .

I've heard this word several tiles here and it always makes me cringe: "Synergy". I can imagine it being tossed around film studio boardrooms by clueless pitchmen in suits (and beards) as if it is the definitive justification for every lame idea thought-up in Hollywood, (and Burbank). Synergy...

No love for the Contemporary eh? I even put fluffy clouds in the pic. :) You are right that Brutalist architecture is pretty unpopular right now, just like Victorian Architecture was, and Neo-Classicism was, and Mid-Century Modern was, and countless other styles that have come and gone...

Thanks! I'm sure it would have been cost prohibitive and who knows....someone might have tossed this idea out there. Cloning the entire building to each side would have been too massive, but just adding half of the original building size to each end of the main building would have effectively...

You got me thinking -- this may be too massive but it was easier to clone the entire building. Fun to consider the possibilities though. ;)

The language of the building sets it apart from the rest of the resort: it's on a more prominent location on the lake shore; the curve faces away from the public, it is not diminished in height but equal to the Contemporary, you can't enter any lobby though it looks like it should have one...

NP-- I'm getting my Goofys mixed-up. Edit: To explain, my point wasn't that one was ugly because of the other. And it's not to say that Gwathmey Siegel didn't do a good job replicating the details from the original building. It's just that the building is pretty nondescript, and honestly I...

Perhaps even more disturbing than the way the Ticket price line is curving upward -- that Medium Household Income line is curving downward...! I think that someone was saying that one-day tickets prices were increasing greater than multi-day tickets as an incentive for guests to stay longer...

Definitely there are going to be some things that are more a burden on people's finances and some less. I suppose another relevant comparison would be what people earn to pay for all these things.
