My experience has been that cast members try to keep half of Main Street clear as a walkway up until nearly the start of Happily Ever After. Then everyone basically fills in the entire street just before the show starts. If you want a choice spot, your safest bet is to pick it out 45-60 minutes...

To get the best experience and to be able to clearly see the projections, you ideally need to be on Main Street between Casey’s and the hub.

In my area (near Magic Kingdom), it has gotten better...not seeing so many of them. However, I have also been to other places the past few days (including the Animal Kingdom parking lot), where they are still abundant. You should see the lines at the local car washes over the past few weeks!!!!

I think it is also worth noting that Disney's newly announced resort discounts and free dining offers end at the end of September, so they probably anticipate a busy October. It is probably better just to plan on large crowds all month long.

Different types of oranges become available at different points in the season, so maybe there will be at least some parts of the grove that will be open for picking when you're there. Enjoy!
