Wish (Walt Disney Animation - November 2023)

"It's subtle and not in your face" lol, that film could not have been more overtly neo-Malthusian. I'm still optimistic about the movie Wish, because their marketing is everywhere. Even if the film is a dud, it'll be a hit, ya know?

    Inside Out 2

I'm worried this one could absolutely go off the rails. Loved the first film, not so sure about this one.

Wish (Walt Disney Animation - November 2023)

Good point on the strike. So Disney is going "all out" on the marketing here so they have some momentum heading into the lull from the strike. I've been down on Disney, but I think this release will be big. My kids literally ask every other day about it.

Wish (Walt Disney Animation - November 2023)

That villain song is awful. Really really bad. Kids are extremely excited to see this, though. They've done a much better job of marketing this movie and my kids will probably insist on going opening weekend. I imagine lots of families will be in the same boat. I expect Wish to outperform...

Disney Stock Approaching 9 Year Low

A price target of $103 is fine if Disney can actually demonstrate the ability to constrain costs. They haven't been demonstrating an ability to curb costs anywhere except the parks.

Disney's Potential Sale of ABC Television Network???

Yes, exactly. People that think this ABC sale can't happen are looking wayyyy to narrowly. Disney can decide to structure the deal however they want, and buyers will price the assets accordingly. When Byron Allen says he would pay $10b for ABC, he's probably saying he'd buy the network AND...

Disney is a struggling company. I don’t see an end in sight.

I think there's a good chance the parks will be spun off into their own entity, because the buyers of Disney probably want nothing to do with their real estate + theme park businesses. I'd love to see what the vision for DVC and the parks could be with different leadership (tho obviously it...

Journey of Water featuring Moana coming to Epcot

Will the interactive elements work with large crowds? Won't the timing of everything always seem off?
  9. Stitch's Grandfather

    Elemental (Pixar - June 2023)

Not sure about a sequel or a TV show. This was definitely a one-and-done for my kids.

Journey of Water featuring Moana coming to Epcot

This looks terrible. Is there no shade?? Who is this supposed to cater to?

Disney is a struggling company. I don’t see an end in sight.

I'd pay $30/month for ESPN, but only for a few months / year (i.e. during CFB season)

Disney (and others) at the Box Office - Current State of Affairs

Again I'll say that it doesn't matter if a movie makes money in "the long run". Disney has choices of where to put money, and they want to put that money in places that will yield the highest return, as fast as possible. If films can't match the profitability of other investments, they'll shift...

Is attendance really down at WDW this or…

RE: evening / after-hours events: it seems pretty clear to me that eventually Disney would like to move toward 2 ticketed time slots, at each park, every day. They're starting by making all of these evening events special, but over time the only benefit will be that the park is less crowded...

Disney's Live Action The Little Mermaid

You should copy/paste this to the Indiana Jones thread, too.

Indiana Jones 5 Now Pushed Back to 2021

Advance ticket sales for my local theater are really poor for this, worse than Elemental. Just one theater, but woof.

Indiana Jones 5 Now Pushed Back to 2021

"Flop" has both a community meaning and a meaning within the walls of Disney. Disney expects a certain rate of return on all movie investments, and any movie that does not clear that bar means that money was misallocated (i.e. "flop"). When money is misallocated, it means that Disney should...
