I remember once reading Stephen Jay Gould writing that up to some point you couldn't get tenure in a geology department if you believed continental drift theory was correct and then a few years later you coudn't get tenure if you didn't believe it was correct.

Good point, although I'll venture the guess that the fall off in bookings despite what appear to have been very strong internal and external reviews might have led them to conclude that good word of mouth wouldn't be enough to save them.

I think you're right. I don't think we've yet seen the equilibrium that will result from the increased prices and increased complexity of a visit. Maybe the equilibrium will look like 2019, but it's entirely possible that attendance will ratchet down permanently. Another point not often brought...
