News Guardians of the Galaxy Cosmic Rewind attraction confirmed for Epcot

These are just a couple of images, but it’s very visible throughout the park. It’s pretty bad. As for “thinking like most people,” most people cannot articulate what makes (or rather, made) a Disney park special. They don’t realize that Epcot’s pavilions were designed to be seen from all angles...

News Guardians of the Galaxy Cosmic Rewind attraction confirmed for Epcot

Remember the "Disney Difference?" Yeah, it costs more to build EPCOT Center and DAK than it does to build Six Flags. The extra $$$ spent to hide big ugly blue warehouses used to be what made Disney special. The problem, it seems to me, is that current management doesn't get why people used to...

News Guardians of the Galaxy Cosmic Rewind attraction confirmed for Epcot

...you don't have to turn around to see the ugly blue warehouse. The thing literally towers over Spaceship Earth.

News Guardians of the Galaxy Cosmic Rewind attraction confirmed for Epcot

As much as I'd hate to lose the Energy building, this would have been the preferable route.

News Guardians of the Galaxy Cosmic Rewind attraction confirmed for Epcot

Serious question--and the answer may be that it would be cost prohibitive: Why not build the coaster partially underground? Could they have dug a basement for the footprint of the showbuilding, and sunk the coaster into that, thus cutting the visible parts of the showbuilding in half? Does that...

    Your EPCOT future world ideas

The only thing I'd add is that this is a creative problem bigger than Chapek alone. Let's remember that Iger was CEO when the EPCOT overhaul was announced. I honestly wonder if the problem is that, when it comes to WDI, the best of the best have all left the company. @Eddie Sotto, Tony Baxter...

    Your EPCOT future world ideas

I have a lot of thoughts regarding EPCOT and the direction that Disney is taking the park. While I won't spell all of them out right this minute, there are three major aspects of the park's update that bother me most. 1) Disney's lack of regard for sightlines. The new Guardians show building...

News Chapek FIRED, Iger New CEO

I don't know, the Guardians of the Galaxy warehouse at EPCOT is beyond unforgivable to me, really. Pretty much the worst thing Disney has ever done to any of the parks. Shoot, I'd even take the Figment-less, joyless Journey Into Your Imagination before that monstrosity looming over the park.

News Chapek FIRED, Iger New CEO

I too found it curious how much Iger has supposedly been emphasizing the creative side of the business. Creativity and Iger are not two words I'd usually list side-by-side. He spent his entire tenure acquiring outside properties while seeming shocked at the success of Disney hits like Frozen and...

News Chapek FIRED, Iger New CEO

All of this seems very fair, and I really like the way you framed it.

News Chapek FIRED, Iger New CEO

I mean, to be fair, Chapek probably shouldn't be leading the company. He might be a fine businessman, but nothing in his background leads me to believe he's suited for the CEO job of an entertainment company. With that said, I too sense that he's being undermined and feel for him.

What should NOT have been replaced?

The Great Movie Ride. It needed updating; maybe even a new ride system. The concept for the attraction was the heart of Hollywood Studios though, and it should forever be synonymous with the park.

News Reflections of Earth confirmed to be replaced by Harmonious

They did the same thing with the Innoventions West buildings. They blew money on tearing them down so that they could build new structures at the expense of spending money more wisely (i.e. on Imagination and The Seas). It's beyond nonsensical.

News Reflections of Earth confirmed to be replaced by Harmonious

Your friend is taking a 2-day trip to WDW over July 4th weekend. He's going to purchase a one-park ticket for each day he's there, and wants to know which 2 parks you recommend he visits. You wouldn't tell him your 2 favorite parks? Not only would I tell him to visit Magic Kingdom and Hollywood...

News Reflections of Earth confirmed to be replaced by Harmonious

But that misses my point from earlier. The problems with Harmonious isn't that it doesn't fit into my "ideal EPCOT." The problems are that the show simply isn't good. That's why I'm not as confident as you that the average guest will spend their time watching it.

News Reflections of Earth confirmed to be replaced by Harmonious

There's also the fact that when it comes to the average guest, diehards can often have sway over their opinions. On multiple occasions, friends of mine have asked me to help them plan a trip to Disney because they know how much I love the parks. If they have 3 days at WDW, and I tell them to...

News Reflections of Earth confirmed to be replaced by Harmonious

That remains to be seen, I'm not so sure. The fact remains, however, that the show was created for anyone who buys a ticket to EPCOT, including Disney die-hards and EPCOT-nostalgists. Alienating the die-hards because they only make up 10-15% of park attendance and the remaining 80%+ of guests...
