News Cars-Themed Attractions at Magic Kingdom

Random thought. I would be more open to changes like this if Disney’s attitude towards IP was similar to that of the Asian parks. There, they seem to love the IP, seem to love creating fantasy worlds, and it shows. Beautiful. (If that’s a misinterpretation apologies.) US based Disney has a very...

Do you think Disney will ever make a really impressive playground again?

I doubt such data exists, but I’d be curious what the odds of being injured on a theme park ride vs. at a playground are. My guess is that it’s comparable to riding in cars vs. airplanes. Far more incidents in cars overall, although if there’s an incident on an airline there’s a higher chance...

Do you think Disney will ever make a really impressive playground again?

Fast food playgrounds are disappearing because of liability and sanitation concerns. They are being replaced by indoor playground chains, but everyone using those has to sign a liability waiver. Guessing Disney doesn’t want to deal with the liability.

I don’t know… maybe, but I have no idea what the numbers look like. There is no 🤔 emoji in the response bar, so I’ll respond here…. 🤔

Iger is Ruining WDW, The Disney Company, and needs to go

I don’t think that “new stuff” vs. “old stuff” is necessarily the right metric here. The castle is from a much earlier time period, no one is suggesting that needs to go because they don’t have nostalgic memories of local castles. To rework a Walt quote “Old farts are just cool young people...

Wow! Hadn’t heard that. Although still - if it was a huge draw I feel they would have replaced it.

I’m sympathetic to your overall point and think the parks propped up D+ for too long, but I do think the day to day cost of running the parks has to be taken into account. Movies are mostly up front costs with (mostly) profits following after that. The parks, by contrast, create enormous new...

    Actual Insiders vs Wannabe Insiders

I don't know, I think part of it is just how Teh Young People talk today. Like you don't swagger into a room and say "Hey, 'sup? So guess what? I heard about a tentative new project that may or may not be under consideration pending a number of variables!" I think you have to throw down your...

    Actual Insiders vs Wannabe Insiders

This seems kinda harsh. Personally, I want to hear from everyone. Did you hear a rumor from the guy who sells churros?! Bring it!! Your cousin's roommate's childhood babysitter's dog walker says they know an Imagineer? Spill the tea!! You had a vivid hypnogogic dream last night that you are...

Is Universal Actually Getting Better or Is Disney Just Getting Worse?

Interesting, what was different about the culture? I do think the reception of Epic will say a lot about Universal’s future trajectory. If they appear to be trending up, then who knows, at some point they might match Disney’s success. If Epic shows that really no one else can do themed parks...

Is Universal Actually Getting Better or Is Disney Just Getting Worse?

I haven’t been to Universal since the late 90s, so my viewpoint is based largely on what I’ve seen on the internet and such. Until Epic, the only reason I would consider a trip to Universal would be to see the Potter stuff. Epic seems like a different story though. I’ll be really curious to see...

News from the New York Times today: "Is a Disney Theme Park Vacation Still Worth the Price?"

I'm saying there's a difference between income level and class. No one would argue that we don't have different income levels in the US, of course. But I don't think we have strongly delineated classes the way that they do in other parts of the world. In other parts of the world the activities a...

Thoughts on whether Disney will add a 3rd theme park in the US (perhaps Midwest/east coast?)

Yeah but is that a bad thing? I'm assuming it turns a profit as a resort where people make non-DVC reservations.

News 'Encanto' and 'Indiana Jones'-themed experiences at Animal Kingdom

Oh ok, I hadn’t seen this. I rescind my earlier comment then! I just assumed they would be shiny polished Disney figures.

Thoughts on whether Disney will add a 3rd theme park in the US (perhaps Midwest/east coast?)

Interesting, I didn’t realize they’d tried it. I see what you mean about buying DVC but I think hotels like Aulani and the one in Hilton Head are sort of hybrid DVC / traditional pay per night resorts, as my impression is that they take a lot of non-DVC reservations.

News 'Encanto' and 'Indiana Jones'-themed experiences at Animal Kingdom

I see your rationale, but I’m pretty sure the characters will look perfect and polished. They will not have a handmade look and feature airbrushed pictures of Disney characters hanging with Looney Tunes characters, the way an actual carousel made in a small town or village might.

Thoughts on whether Disney will add a 3rd theme park in the US (perhaps Midwest/east coast?)

I could see them trying to compete with places like Great Wolf Lodge via expanded DVC offerings throughout the country. Orlando can only support so many DVC units after all.

News Cars-Themed Attractions at Magic Kingdom

I think one has to be cautious with this line of thinking. Which pulls more tourists, a high tech arcade or a quaint, vintage beach town? Which do people rave about more, the high tech animatronics in Tiana’s Bayou Adventure or the low tech ones in Haunted Mansion? Why did the virtual reality...

News Cars-Themed Attractions at Magic Kingdom

I think you’re reading too much into it, personally. If it’s supposed to be sarcasm it comes off as way too earnest, to the point where no one is going to get that it’s sarcasm. Also unlikely someone who works for Disney would be making snarky comments about Disney. Probably just someone who...

News from the New York Times today: "Is a Disney Theme Park Vacation Still Worth the Price?"

I think there is some confusion about “class” vs. “price”, because the US is still a relatively (relatively) egalitarian kinda place. There are no stations or castes that are being specifically marketed to here. There is more $$ vs. less $$. The free market has some issues, but one of its...
