Yep I've checked in quite early too, but the reason the room is ready early is almost always because it was empty the night before, not because the housekeeping staff managed to clean in in half hour first thing.

The 9am rooms are ready because no guest stayed in that room overnight, not beacuse it was cleaned at 8.30am.

Even if the sign is only "room occupied" housekeeping should not knock until after check-out time if the sign is there then. If there was no sign on the door, housekeeping can knock from 8.30am onwards. But if I've put that sign on the door (no matter how it is worded) they should not knock...

So the short answer is people were angry on Twitter because they didn’t put the do not disturb sign on the doorman then got disturbed. I always put the do not disturb on when going to bed and only remove it once we are out for the day and ready for housekeeping.

No mobile ordering has nothing to do with room charges it just charges the card immediately. But my understanding is if you want to avoid the hold on your card when staying on site you need to tell the front desk.

If you are staying on site you will get a hold on your card unless you tell the front desk to turn off the ability to charge to your room account.
