    Splash Mountain re-theme announced

That's pretty much exactly how I feel. I'm trying to remember all the happiness that WDW has brought me over the years, but it all feels tinged with betrayal now. I completely agree with you about this being the deepest cut. I've been unhappy about lots of things they've done in the parks...

    Should WDW open?

Thanks. I've been curious about this. Glad to know that they're doing that.

    Splash Mountain re-theme announced

Is anyone else who is very saddened by the Splash Mountain decision having trouble enjoying other Disney things? I have loads of (too many) Disney clothes and lots of stuff in the house was bought on disney trips. Every time I go to grab my Splash Mountain mug in the morning I have a moment of...

    Should WDW open?

Are they cleaning the actual rides vehicles between guests?

It's quite telling that you insist on pretending you have the moral high ground while engaging in exactly the same behaviour you purport to criticize. I'm not personally offended by what you call me - you don't know a single thing about me. But I do find your hypocrisy astounding.

    The Splash Mountain Appreciation Thread

I love the vegetable garden. I honestly get excited when we approach that scene.

Oh, you forgot some. Trader Sam's. Any of the old princess movies, which wipes out anything remaining after your list. Coronado Springs (glorifies the Spanish conquest of Mexico). Caribbean Beach (makes a bunch of different Caribbean islands seem all the same).

I find it amazing that in a thread with a big focus on issues of equality and stereotyping, somehow you think it's okay to insult someone by calling them "Karen".

Is that actually true? They are using a number system to evaluate attractions for problematic content?

    Ok, fair enough I suppose!

No, you’re not the only one. I can remember the exact moment I fell in love with wdw. It was my first trip, and I was in the line for Splash Mountain, my first time. You know the little birdhouses that hang over the outdoor part of the queue? I saw that and heard the sound effects coming...

But they should. It would be much more meaningful than what they’re actually doing.

If it is “just a ride”, then why is it so important to change it? You can’t use the argument that “it’s just a ride” but then be upset that people with a different viewpoint are saying “it’s just a ride, there’s no need to change it”.

I’ve been in that queue for hours, if not days of my life, and not once have I heard anyone whispering about Song of the South.

It really wouldn't be hard to argue that the Disney version of Sleeping Beauty is inherently problematic, as are pretty much all of the "princess" movies. In all of them, women are basically objects who have to be "saved" by men. Look at Beauty and the Beast - Belle falls in love with her...

    Splash Mountain re-theme announced

Most people here are not defending the source material. They are defending the ride, and in fact pointing out that the ride is very far removed from the source material.

Holy crap, I can't even anymore tell if you're joking. You're the one being ignorant and racist by saying that everyone from the DR, Haiti, Puerto Rico and Cuba is "the same". Read a book, or hey, travel. Haitians and Dominicans are not the same, whether they're in the DR, Haiti, or the US...

Interesting. It's one of the few Disney movies I've never seen and I would like to. I find Disney's attempt to pretend that this movie doesn't exist (by making it unavailable in North America) is worse than openly acknowledging it and using it as a learning opportunity.

I'm not sure if you're referring to me when you talk about "people like you". I never said a word about communism, or socialism, or any other political ideology. You can make whatever assumptions you want but I am as liberal as they come. And yet, incredibly, I like the old/current SM and...

    Splash Mountain re-theme announced

YES!!!! I was just about to write this. If the connection to Song of the South is so problematic in the US, why is it okay to leave SM as is in other parts of the world? The fact that they are not announcing changes in Tokyo really shows that the announcement is much more about appearing to be...
