DLR first visit from the eyes of a WDW veteran

We've long been planning a two week vacation where we fly to SF and drive down to SD. Yes, so much to see. I've explored parts of the greater LA area (no insult intended by calling it that!) in the past as well as SF. But CA is so big there are so many things I'd like to see. Limited only by...

DLR first visit from the eyes of a WDW veteran

Awesome. Wow. Sort of the opposite of WDW. 4th of July and Easter I would never go near WDW. Labor day isn't terrible but worse thanks the week days before and after. Another thing that makes my knowledge of WDW kind of useless. I'd like to take the kids to DLR sone day and labor day would I...

DLR first visit from the eyes of a WDW veteran

Naive question:. Isn't DLR blocking APs because of high crowd levels? Based on that I would have thought that days when APS were not blocked would be lower crowd level days. I guess maybe it is a chicken and egg. Anyway, this was when we went because of a conference. And truly it was great...

DLR first visit from the eyes of a WDW veteran

You can! As long as you spend $50 and use your Disney Visa. (I looked it up!). So now I must spend $50 at a pop. Second mortgage anyone? ;)

DLR first visit from the eyes of a WDW veteran

I already have like 5 things in my cart. But having just returned from DLR I should probably wait until the credit card bills arrive. I wonder, but suppose you don't get the Disney Visa discount if you spend over $50?

By the way, these make me so happy. Got them on mainstreet. Only wish I'd bought more...What was in thinking with only one plate? ;) I'm sure its all the same everywhere but there seemed to be a better variety of stuff for sale at DLR. Maybe just my imagination.

Cool. Thanks. Never knew it wasn't an elevator.

Cool. Wish we had made it but something for a future trip! You mean it isn't an elevator in WDW? I always assumed it was...

I would like to have made it into the haunted Mansion. But never got a chance. Is it similarly different?

Specifically I'm thinking of WDW vs DLR. You are correct. Until we know what they actually do, hard to tell if better or worse.

Totally agree about POTC. Couldn't believe the difference here. But I've always loved the queue for pirates through the castle at WDW.

To be clear, there are tradeoffs with both systems. The ability to book in advance will reduce the number available. But that would also make it more convenient. For me it is about even the good and the bad.

DLR first visit from the eyes of a WDW veteran

Oh, to be clear we had a wonderful time! The Spring Break crowds were far bigger issue, but unavoidable. On the RSR they actually walked all of the guests off the ride mid-ride so I suspect it was more than a few effects not working. But I do appreciate the effort to keep everything in good...

DLR first visit from the eyes of a WDW veteran

We just got back from three days at DLR April 3-6. This was our first visit ever, though we are veterans of WDW, having visited many many times dating back to 1973. We loved DLR, but inevitably ended up comparing everything to WDW. Here are our observations in a perhaps less than coherent order...

Guide to DLR for WDW Veterans!

At LAX after my first ever trip to DLR. We had a blast but inevitably I compared everythjng to WDW. In many ways favorably. But I will say the security check followed by the ticket scanning was so much slower than I ever experienced at Wdw. Some days 20 -25 min. Was shocking. That said the...

Thanks! Does the Disney World rule of thumb to avoid parks with EMH also apply to DLR?

Guide to DLR for WDW Veterans!

So having never been this is my take away. If you are staying on-site you can use extra magic hours, when offered, at either park. If you are off site using a three day ticket with one free magic morning you can used the one magic morning only at DL (and NOT CA) and again only when offered...

Guide to DLR for WDW Veterans!

Thanks, everyone. So for an offsite guest with a 3 day ticket, that perk of the early magic morning is Only at DL? So based on our days it sounds like just April 4th. That's totally fine with me, just didn't want to mess up!
