Attendance sinking on the West Coast too?

The huge ticket and hotel discounts they announced for Disneyland a bit ago were a major warning alarm in Disney terms. They don't offer those kinds of deals when their attendance projections are high.

News Space Mountain and Disneyland Railroad closing for refurbishment in early August 2024

Haunted Mansion Splash Mountain Space Mountain All closed for an extended period at the same time - in the middle of summer. Doesn't seem like a great time to be a Disneyland guest. Reminiscent to me of the early 00s.

News Tiana's Bayou Adventure - latest details and construction progress

There's never been a point in time where it wasn't ridiculous. The entire sub-industry of Disney influencers is absurd.

News Tiana's Bayou Adventure - latest details and construction progress

In Anaheim, Mission Breakout returned to average ToT wait times within just a few weeks of it's reopening, and that project got much better word of mouth as a reskin than TBA is getting. I doubt TBA has the draw to sustain higher-than-average waits for two years.

Tiana's Bayou Adventure: Disneyland Watch & Discussion

If you believe the rumors, Iger himself told them weeks ago that the attraction was lacking and that apparently didn't change much.

News Tiana's Bayou Adventure - latest details and construction progress

Are we sure it's not showing TBA in its best light? If this is really just a matter of a poorly filmed and edited video then "strange mistake" would be an understatement. I'm not sure I'm buying that explanation, though. I'm more inclined to think Disney took the unique step of releasing an...

Tiana's Bayou Adventure: Disneyland Watch & Discussion

My guess is that the general reaction to the ride will be fine, because the ride itself is fine. Most people familiar with both versions will feel like Splash was better and the new version is just... fine.

News Tiana's Bayou Adventure - latest details and construction progress

I can't imagine they'd be evacuating the ride over some screens and anamatronics glitching.

News Tiana's Bayou Adventure - latest details and construction progress

I don't even understand this. The basic structural ride was already operating for 30 years. Why is it suddenly not functional?

News Tiana's Bayou Adventure - latest details and construction progress

I'm probably more thinking of the studio side, and expecting we may see a similar corporate reaction to this since the whole project is underpinned by simmering social issues.

News Tiana's Bayou Adventure - latest details and construction progress

The emotional complexity of the original is a big reason this ride became so iconic, IMO. Having my dad drag me through the queue and force me to ride it (as only a wise, caring dad can) is a low-key formative memory of my childhood. I will never forget the feeling of triumph I had when I...

News Tiana's Bayou Adventure - latest details and construction progress

I suspect it may actually be worse in person. Most people will ride it in daytime when the cool exterior effects aren't visible. And in person you won't be able to screen cut through the empty parts.

Tiana's Bayou Adventure: Disneyland Watch & Discussion

Seems like they actually proactively worked to take as much of the "thrill" out of it as they could. I have no other explanation for why the lift hill was made into such a non-event.

News Tiana's Bayou Adventure - latest details and construction progress

IMO, the recent pattern at Disney seems to be blaming the consumers for not liking their "magical" products enough. Especially since the old version of this attraction was viewed as "troublesome," it won't be hard for them to promote the narrative that the ride is perfectly fine and it's just...

Tiana's Bayou Adventure: Disneyland Watch & Discussion

I would actually argue the opposite. At the end of the day the CEO is, by definition, the be all and end all. There is nowhere else for the buck to stop once it gets to them.

You mean the kind of decisions like... who's in charge of the park and WDI and what their budgets are?

Can this one still be stretched out far enough to be blamed on Chapek? Or does Iger have to start taking some arrows again?

News Tiana's Bayou Adventure - latest details and construction progress

When they built the original, they took a standard log flume ride and turned it into something riveting and generationally iconic. It appears they've now turned an icon back into just a really expensively themed log flume ride. It's fine. Log flume rides are fun. Expensive themeing is...
