So passengers should feel free to act like pre-school children in the name of freedom and flight attendants should just take it? Freedom is the #1 good isn’t freedom.

I've also lived in the City and used the MTA every day. The point is that "freedoms" are causing disruption. The freedom to not vaccinate is racking up hospitalizations and fostering spread, and the "freedom" to gather however, whenever, and without masks is affecting services which affects...

Nobody is saying they can't. Nobody. At the same time, freedom is no excuse for engaging in risky behaviors that hurt others. Freedom comes with responsibility. If it can't be exercised responsibly, it isn't earned or deserved. That's why it can also legally be taken away.

The MTA is shutting down whole lines because they don't have enough staff. Yesterday the W line was closed and service reduced on the other lines due to COVID. We're not going to have a mandated shutdown. We're just going to have government controlled gatherings (like NYE Times Square) reduced...

We can’t get rid of COVID. We can, to a certain extent, control how wild the spread is by our behavior, and we can control how badly it affects us by getting vaccinated. I know COVID is tearing through Britain and Europe but I wonder if their hospitalizations are as bad as here per capita...

What are you talking about? Hospitalizations are going up dramatically here. I have a feel next week will be one of the worst weeks we will have seen in this pandemic since tools became available to do the right thing.

NJ was in the 45s when testing began a couple of months into the pandemic. This is the highest it's been in ages. I don't even think last winter we got much above the high teens. I'm not even sure everyone who wants a PCR test for confirmation or first test can get a test right now, which...

Over 20,000 new cases in NJ today, 40 new deaths. We generally had less than 10 deaths a day in the summer. Hospitalizations are just shy of their peak last January. I'm doing a funeral tonight for a healthy 53 year old who died of COVID last Thursday. The deceased went into the hospital the...

I live in Freehold Borough. East of Rte 18 is very strange to me. :) I agree - but my point was both counties are Central NJ counties with similar population diversities (rural, suburban, urban; white, non-white; etc.) and Mercer has generally had lower counts than Monmouth. Of course, Ocean...

You also have to take into account population density and mask adherence within those clusters, as well as propensity for private gatherings which might be unmasked and dense. In NJ, Mercer County generally has better mask compliance than Monmouth County and their numbers reflect that. They are...

Why hospitalizations will be a concern. NJ was doing decently this fall. Then we started increasing as the weather cooled. Last week we jumped from around 3000 cases daily to around 6000 daily (the highest sustained +6000 count since the pandemic began). Today we're reporting over 9000 cases...

Not everyone has to test everyday. People who are retired, work at home, work in small offices, work in environments where they aren’t close to other people don’t need to test. Some are already tested regularly. My husband tests weekly because he’s a hospice chaplain. I test vicariously through...

The problem isn’t numbers of patients, it’s lack of staff. With this kind of spread, staffing shortages create the service crises. And next week when numbers are through the roof (because Omicron is just getting started here), you’ll have a combination of more patients and not enough staff...

I’m not sure it didn’t help other places. Perhaps their numbers would be worse if they did nothing? France is worse than the US and NJ, but better than my county which is filled with people doing diddly-squat. There is no “end game” for COVID. It’s “Learn to live safely with it” and learn that...

I'm not sure it's an all or nothing and approach, and I certainly think total shutdowns of any industry will cause just as many, though different, problems. I can see mask mandates, vaccination ramp-ups, massive testing ramp up, and capacity limits for a period of time. European style health...

Something I learned yesterday planning a trip to France - you can purchase an at-home antigen test that can be proctored virtually and counts for US entry. Only available to US addresses and must be purchased before leaving the country. Download an app and take 15-30 minutes to do the virtual...

Anecdotal, non-peer-reviewed from my primary doc's assessment of his patents (and his own experience): Getting a Moderna vaccine is like getting hit by a Mac truck. But the stats show it's worth it! #1 was no problem. #2 had both my husband and I out a day. #3 Had me out two days, and my...

News Contemporary Refurbishment--April to Sept 2021

I like a lot here. I would dial back The Incredibles a smidge and bring in a little more design variation. The closet is cute, but I think the Incredible themed drinks are bit much. I love the bathroom and the monorail stuff. I'm also not sure how much I like the bright red on the closet door...
