4 Walt Disney World Resorts to accept dogs

Some people lie. GAC abusers, fake service dog owners, line-jumpers, people who use scooters but don't actually need them, people who complain to get free stuff. Out of the hundred thousand plus people at WDW every day, you're quite right: there's a significant percentage who will lie and break...

4 Walt Disney World Resorts to accept dogs

8 hours is generally considered the comfortable max for a healthy dog to go between bathroom breaks, with some variance for different breeds and ages. Many dogs are home all day without a break, or have a last walk around 9pm and don't get up until 6 or 7 am. No doubt there are many personal...

4 Walt Disney World Resorts to accept dogs

Depends on the individual dogs. Some will freak out, some won't even twitch. Disney would be smart to give their agents a list of questions to ask when booking a reservation that includes a dog. "Does your dog get scared during thunder or fireworks?" would be a good one to ask, since some owners...

Owners can go on MyDisneyExperience to schedule bathroom breaks for their dog. We shall call these: "FAST PAWSES"

And the voice that does the stretching room at Haunted Mansion comes over the loudspeakers and booms: "MR AND MRS DOG PARENT, YOUR DOG HAS BEEN ALL ALONE FOR 6 HOURS AND FIFTY-NINE MINUTES! COME BACK TO THE ROOM NOW, PLEASE."

This one I agree with. If a hotel allows dogs, designating a "dog relief" area and expecting guest dogs only to use that area is unrealistic. To most people, outside is outside, and it's not like the area is sterile to begin with, since Florida has wildlife around. It'll be like smokers - most...

Correct. Unless you fake a service dog (and those people will do what they do regardless of what rules are in place), it's really much more trouble and expense to bring the dog than to board him. Especially if you fly, which adds more fees.

I agree, but I think most of those people are the same folks who'd just call their pets "service dogs" to avoid a fee. There's no way to avoid unscrupulous, rude people at Disney, there's tens of thousands of people everywhere you go. Some will always be folks who abuse GAC, ram people with...

Usual costs are between $30-$50/night for full boarding at a nice kennel or at someone else's home. If you want a dog-sitter to stay at your own home so the dog isn't boarded, it's more, our guy charges $70/night for home stays. By contrast, Marriott charges $100 for the entire stay to have a...

4 Walt Disney World Resorts to accept dogs

It might help to remember that not everybody is a park warrior. Even without dogs, lots of people take breaks during their day, going into the parks for a few hours in the morning, then out for a rest in the afternoon, then back in for a few hours in the evening. There are a lot of ways to do a...

I'd forgotten about the hurricane. Maybe things went so well with evacuee pets that they decided to change the general pet policy. Sort of an unplanned but successful trial run.

You're right about the transportation, thanks for the correction. Large dogs are expensive and difficult to fly with, so most dogs on Magical Express will either be real service dogs or be carrier-sized, and thus easily contained. Minnie-vans and internal buses are another story, allowing pets...

4 Walt Disney World Resorts to accept dogs

Lots of opinions here but not a lot of information about how dogs in hotels usually work, which I think might be useful to share. First off, this is not a new thing, Disney is following an industry trend of increasing pet-friendliness at hotels: Marriott, Hilton and Sheraton/Starwood already...

Cold February in WDW this year?

We've done February several times. Morning and evenings can be chilly, warmer at midday. We've had a few nights where we wanted coats and gloves (and the parks were largely empty because of it!) and often we changed several times in a given day. Overall, though, February, especially the last...

PLEASE HELP!!!!! Confused on or off I

I'm usually Captain Off-Property, but I'm going to make an exception for you: unless you're already very comfortable driving a car on American roads, stay on property. Even if you're planning to rent a car and do a driving tour around the USA as part of your larger trip, the area around Disney...

    Suggestions to make this happen

You absolutely can work through this. Remember, most things at Disney are timed for kid attention spans which means nothing is terribly long. Fantasmic is only a half hour, fireworks are 15 minutes or so and individual rides are even less. You probably won't ever be stuck in a single position...

    Suggestions to make this happen

This is not exactly the type of suggestion you're asking for, but I think it's worth saying: Don't try so hard to make it all perfect. This is the downside of all the fun of anticipation and planning: we build our expectations sky high and life doesn't always go along with our plans. People...

Bringing Disney Magic home to the wife?

Souvenirs are good, but how about sending some Disney Magic direct to your house? Disney Floral and Gift ships all kinds of things, you could have something special arrive for her during the trip, to keep her spirits up while you're away.

Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween Party Question

Related to this, if you happen to forget or lose your plastic cards (like a certain relative of mine did even though I told her eight billion times to BRING THE CARDS), don't despair. As long as you have the confirmation email or have added them to your MDE, you can go to Will Call and they'll...

    February or May?

We do! We only go in the cooler months, and February is our favorite! Except for that one week around President's Day, February crowds have been great the last couple years. The downside is that the temperature can be a bit unpredictable and the parks close earlier some evenings (8 or 9pm) but I...
