New DAS System at Walt Disney World 2024

Based on policy this guest should have been entitled to AQR or rider swap if traveling with a group or RTQ if solo. In both cases she could wait with a caregiver. This is a perfectly fair and adequate accommodation. At no point did she mention why these would't work for her. I continue to feel...

News New Polynesian Resort DVC villas building to open 2024

I guess but all the aforementioned properties listed are on WDW property. You can take a Minnie Van to and from the parks and still come in hundreds cheaper than staying at a Disney deluxe hotel, with far nicer room and amenities.

Disney Genie/Genie+ On Their Way to Anaheim

I'm surprised they haven't rolled out a $795 uncharge yet for unlimited G+ for Magic Key holders.

News New Polynesian Resort DVC villas building to open 2024

You could stay at the recently refurbished Waldorf Astoria, the gorgeous new JW or the very nice Swan Reserve for literally one half the price, including Ubers to and from the parks. If you have any loyalty you'd also be eligible to earn upgrades and points. Other than the transportation, why...

Changes to Haunted Mansion Library Busts

I think a good number of these cultural changes are silly and ridiculous (the Roger Rabbit changes at the top of the list), but I don't think they're entirely wrong for maybe not wanting a visual depiction of a suicide victim in a Disney park.

On top of that, it doesn't even mean you're guaranteed to get anything. It's just adding a deterrent step for people to get through before they can talk to the Universal people re: accommodations. People get IBCCES for all kinds of disabilities - deafness, mobility issues, vision issues - many...

New DAS System at Walt Disney World 2024

Yes, these services are available at every attraction. There is no fixed time you must wait, I would just be careful to not make it appear as you've just walked in and immediately walked out. My suggestion would be... speak to the attraction CM at the entrance before getting in line. Explain...

New DAS System at Walt Disney World 2024

Nothing about this is accurate. If you can't wait 60, 70, or 80 minutes you have the option to get in the queue, wait 15-20 to minutes and if you're not feeling well, you can leave the queue, speak to the attraction host and they'll arrange for you to either meet up with the rest of your party...

New DAS System at Walt Disney World 2024

Disney is offering a few official options which are available to everyone: 1) Rider Swap: This allows either a child who is unable to ride or a person with a disability to wait outside the attraction while the rest of the party rides, usually with one caregiver. After the rest of the family...

New DAS System at Walt Disney World 2024

Personally I don't think anyone is saying anything quite so heartless. However, outright abusers aside, it's quite clear that there are a LOT of people with disabilities who are refusing to try the new accommodations because they are not as easy or straight forward to use, or they think they...

New DAS System at Walt Disney World 2024

What are you asking? DAS is one of many accommodations that Disney provides. Universal requires this hurdle before they will even talk to you and they still may not even offer you their DAS equivalent. It's based on the needs of the guest. According to IBCCES: "The IAC is for anyone who is...

New DAS System at Walt Disney World 2024

Not correct, sorry. Yes some people with disabilities weren’t traveling but the lack of FP or line skip option led to the first major peak of abuse, with the second, more dramatic one, being paid LL. Not sure if you used DAS much before the LL roll out but there was a steady stream of people...

New DAS System at Walt Disney World 2024

This assumes there wasn’t growth from 2014-2021. Do you really think that the same number of people using GAC in 2014 was the same number of people using DAS in 2021?

New DAS System at Walt Disney World 2024

Sorry but, again, according to Disney DAS usage has "more than tripled" in the last 3 years alone. Prior to that the number they last confirmed was 3% of guests using GAC. It's impossible for it to be 8%. Maybe @lentesta can clarify where he got the current 8% number, because from the ops...

New DAS System at Walt Disney World 2024

Disney said 3% of people were using GAC in 2014. It obviously grew larger than that between 2014-2021, with Disney saying it had "more than tripled" in the last 3 years alone. So even by that estimate we are at 9-10% + all the people on each DAS.

New DAS System at Walt Disney World 2024

The 8% number is not accurate. 3% of guests were using GAC in 2014 when they rolled out DAS. It continued to grow each year. It reached new heights in 2020 when WDW reopened with standby only and guests wanted a "line skip" option. G+ made it grow faster than ever, with Disney stating that use...

New DAS System at Walt Disney World 2024

No, DAS is not a requirement. Disney has to provide some kind of access, but it doesn't have to be DAS. I do think one mistake in this whole thing was keeping the DAS name. They should have simply gotten rid of the name all together and relaunched a new "Guest Assistance Service" (or some such...

New DAS System at Walt Disney World 2024

Making a magical moment is different than what should be a pretty standard SOP though. Does the person with the disability get to have a caretaker stay with them? What if they're traveling solo or only have a minor child to wait on their behalf? Stuff like this is seems to be inconsistently...

New DAS System at Walt Disney World 2024

Except that like there's still a huge swath of people who will go to GR for disability accommodation then be unable to be accommodated. Thereby GR has to explain to them what they can offer, which is AQR and rider swap. It would make the most sense for GR to at least know the basics - but there...
