I'm guessing this is partly due to the ongoing law suits. Money has to be spent on lawyers instead of the roads. This is all kinda disappointing to think about too. It means the advantage that Disney once had with their much nicer roadways, traffic control, signs, etc. will likely start to look...

I think I asked this before, but if Disney wins the suit, can they then file suit against the state to recoup some of the legal expenses they incurred because of it?

Not sure if it's intended or not, but it seems like this litigation is drowning the district in legal bills. I have to wonder if there's any recourse to this. If Disney wins the law suit, and RCID is restored, can they then sue the state and the Governor to recoup the legal fees?

Not the same. Other parks have both a discounted Florida Resident pass, but also a discount for First Responders. Universal has a 30% discount, SeaWorld has free days for First Responders, Legoland offers 25% off, Busch Gardens has discounts up to 50%. Disney does not have anything that I could...

The last sentence of the first paragraph is crucial. The contract specifically says that the prevailing rights clause does not include “benefits afforded to employees by the District as a result of its interface with Walt Disney World Co.”. It specifically says that Main Gate Passes like the...

True, mainly because the benefit was probably provided pre-tax or perhaps even included as a perk that would exclude it from being taxed. By most statutes, a discount does not equal a gift. According to the US Dept of Labor: Gifts What Is a Gift? - 5 C.F.R. § 2635.203(b) and (c) A gift is...

I had two kids that went thru the DCP, and I did their taxes. I went back and looked at their W2s and there wasn't any special benefits noted on them that would account for it. I assume it's just a non-taxable perk/benefit that's given to their employees.

Perhaps not, but I still think Disney could (should?) create a discount program for them and it wouldn't violate any kind of legal, benefit s policies or ethics programs. Many companies offer these for specific sectors of employment including government, teachers, first responders, residents, etc.

I tend to agree with you, but also I think it's important to support and take care of the first responders. Like the CMs, they play an equally important if not more so role in helping to ensure things flow smoothly and safely at the resort. I think they stepped in to a political battle and are...

Why wouldn't they? The negotiations with Disney were stalled. They were hoping they would get a better deal. I don't fault them in that. It's like kids in an ugly divorce, they're going to pick the parent that they think will treat them best.

Of course, but that doesn't mean they were "anti-Disney". They were just looking for a better deal, and this seemed like it was that, until the perk they previously enjoyed got yanked by their new leaders.

I don't think that's accurate. I think they were frustrated with Disney and RCIDs response and handling of the negotiations for a new contract due to them dragging their feet and rejecting several items they felt unnecessary. The firefighters were happy to have new leadership of CFTOD because...

A discount isn't the same as a gift, and is allowed under most guidelines and policies. Also, Govx, which is a major outlet for listing discounts for government employees has hundreds of discounts listed for hotels, theme parks, and all kinds of things for government employees, military, and...

News Reedy Creek Improvement District and the Central Florida Tourism Oversight District

I don't see this happening, but Disney could make themselves out to look like the heroes in this situation by offering a special AP to the firefighters and all first responders, really. I thought they did this already, but can't seem to find anything. Maybe they did in the past. Regardless, I...

I do kind of feel bad for them. They had the rug pulled out from under them.

At this rate, CFTOD will bankrupt themselves and their "taxpayers". Maybe that's their secret plan.

In light of this fiasco with CFTOD and Disney charging them for the park passes, do we know how this was handled under RCID? Did Disney provide them for free, subsidized, or heavily discounted? Just curious what the arrangement was.

News Reedy Creek Improvement District and the Central Florida Tourism Oversight District

Getting a bit off-topic, but this seems like a harsh response. I know the firefighters and RCID had been back and forth on contract negotiations for awhile, and CFTOD finally settled and approved a new contract. But, attacking them for “complaining”, and suggesting they need to work more or...

My bad. Sorry, IANAL, so I just make it up as I go along, and it sounded good. 😁 What about the possibility of the law(s) being overturned? I've only skimmed some of the suits they cited but it seems like this has happened more than once in cases where First Amendment violations were alleged.
