Rumor Higher Speed Rail from MCO to Disney World

I hope they do build it. I just think that it is going to take a lot of things going right to make it happen.

Rumor Higher Speed Rail from MCO to Disney World

I'm not sure if this has been mentioned, but no one is driving from The Grand Floridian to Epcot via the TTC. It doesn't make sense to drive between Tampa and Miami via Orlando, but it does make sense to travel by train between the two via Orlando. In fact, if you were to drive between...

Rumor Higher Speed Rail from MCO to Disney World

Brightline knows there is money to be made connecting MCO to Tampa, but the cost of borrowing the money to build it is dramatically higher now than it was when Brightline originally began planning it. Once you factor in the cost of construction and debt, even something with really high ridership...

    Where in The World?

For some reason, I am feeling Hollywood or Sunset Blvd at DHS, but I'm not sure where it would be.

Rumor Higher Speed Rail from MCO to Disney World

I would caution you that the 417 route estimate is likely low by a similar amount. Construction cost inflation has been extremely high over the past few years. The 417 route is almost certainly still cheaper than the Sunshine Corridor, but not 1/4 the price.

Rumor Higher Speed Rail from MCO to Disney World

Also, my elementary school was literally adjacent to a live railroad track with a grade crossing next to the school driveway (the railroad predated the school by about 50 years). So even if that was the case here, it literally wouldn't matter. I had actually forgotten that was the case until...

News 'Encanto' and 'Indiana Jones'-themed experiences at Animal Kingdom

If they leave Dinoland open during construction, I agree. But if all of Dinoland closes (perhaps sans the walkway to the Nemo Musical), the rockwork and other required exterior construction could occur simultaneously to the interior build out. New Fantasyland touches the roof of the working...

News 'Encanto' and 'Indiana Jones'-themed experiences at Animal Kingdom

I don't think the issue was the construction compthey used. During covid, construction went to a crawl because they wanted to spend less money on construction in a given year: $100 million over two years is $50 million a year. $100 million over five years is $20 million a year. If the cash...

Rumor Higher Speed Rail from MCO to Disney World

If money were no object, I would agree it would be unfair to take a route that skips the convention center. But do you really want tax payers in Volusia County to be on the hook for train service to the convention center? (Not necessarily saying they will be. But the funding structure of...

Rumor Higher Speed Rail from MCO to Disney World

I think that Universal contributed to the coalition that includes the county, city, and I-drive businesses that didn't want to be bypassed. Earlier in this thread I indicated that the selection of the Sunshine Corridor reduced the odds of train service to Disney and Tampa to the low single...

Rumor Higher Speed Rail from MCO to Disney World

Still reading the report, but this line in the Sentinel jumped out at me: "Connecting SunRail to just the airport, for example, would cost an estimated $400 million and boost annual ridership to a projected 3.7 million." How do they get to $400 million for that!? They don't need to build...

    Please fix the monorail!

Did anyone find out the actual cost of Skyliner? I have only seen stuff saying it was more expensive than some of the previous gondola record holders, which were in the $50 million total range. I would be very surprised if a Doppelmayr D Line Gondola wasn't in the neighborhood of 1/3 the cost...

    Please fix the monorail!

Several years ago I did an armchair imagineering project to determine a full build out of the WDW monorail system and calculate ridership on each segment of the network. You can read about it here. It would require 24 monorail trains with 13 cars each, platform level boarding at all stations...

    Please fix the monorail!

I would also expect the station buildings and the electrical infrastructure to be significantly more expensive than a simple inflation adjustment from ~50 years ago.

    The hotels of HKDL

I have stayed at the TDL Hilton and Sheraton in 2018 and 2019, respectively. I remember thinking both were very comparable. I would happily stay at either on a future trip.

Another reason for the reasonable wait times is the ride's extremely high capacity. Six cabins with 40 seats will do a lot for you!

News Test Track to be reimagined

I wouldn't be so sure. Theme park investments drive attendance and hotel bookings (and tens of millions in I'll revenue, if it is good). Theme parks are a more reliable way to get a return on Wall Street's investments. Heck, "Disney isn't investing enough in the parks" has been a major criticism...

News Test Track to be reimagined

I would also love to see the canopy go away, provided that the functions that occur under the canopy be moved under the building roof. Tge only way to do that with the current ride track and be able to accommodate the queue would be to build an addition to the building, possibly behind a berm...

News Test Track to be reimagined

The Tesla Model Y is a compact SUV that weighs between 4,154 and 4,155 lbs. The best selling compact SUV in 2022 was the Toyota Rav4, which weighs between 3,370 and 3,640 lbs. Apples to apples, EVs are heavier. But they are less maintenance, more powerful, have less wear on brake pads due to...

Rumor Higher Speed Rail from MCO to Disney World

Nobody reasonable would ever accuse Amtrak of being a well managed organization. But that doesn't mean that rail has no place in our transportation system. Some individual segments of intercity rail actually do operate at a profit. In fact, a fair portion of the lack of profitability of Amtrak...
