Cast member costumes never get enough love! I’m really digging the prim 1910s silhouettes in the Haunted Mansion Parlor outfits and the double-breasted vest detail on the Periscope Pub outfits! Very thematically appropriate based on what we’ve been shown so far.
To be honest, I was never too keen on the placement of the hearse directly in front of the Mansion steps. It always seemed like a bit of an eyesore. I much prefer that placement over its current location though! It really needs some atmospheric shade. At the moment, it’s pretty washed out by the...
On a tangentially related note, didn’t the villain in the 2003 film have vaguely-possibly-racially-charged motivations for preventing Gracey from marrying Abigail (at least in the extended lore website that was published at the time)?
Yup! That’s it! It used to exist on both coasts but it’s been out of commission at Disneyland for years and is only working sporadically at Disney World.
There’s lots of small effects that have been broken for years at the Haunted Mansions on both coasts. The traveling light effect on the exterior of the house has been gone for a while now. As have the billowing curtains just before the endless hallway. They’re great little ambience effects.
It’s a reference to the late-1920s date the ride was set. I know I’m probably alone in this, but I really enjoy Tiana’s new, historically referenced hairstyle. I’m under the impression that this look (based on the concept art that we’ve been given) will be used on the upcoming animated series...
I really don’t understand the purpose of the constant adjustments with the ride. I can’t think of another attraction that consistently receives as many reworks and additions.
It appears the rumored new effect in the Haunted Mansion library has materialized. The Aunt Lucretia bust has had its earlier backlighting replaced with a rear projected face. There aren't any high-quality videos readily available yet, but apparently her expression changes just slightly as the...
Bingo. To my knowledge, the form and dressing of the mannequins are different between the coasts. The mannequin at Disneyworld features actual arms and significantly more layers of veiling around her face and torso (this is especially obvious in videos where the veils are being blown by the fan...
I think the mural is cute, and I'm usually pretty critical of these kinds of things. It's very reminiscent of the kind of folk art you see around the Gulf Coast. To me, it looks a bit more 1970s than 1920s, but it has that fun, rustic, folk quality.
Spoilers ahead for this year’s Haunted Mansion Holiday overlay. Has anyone seen the new gingerbread house for this year? They keep mentioning a character named Von Ginger in the promotional materials? Does anyone know where this came from?
Does anyone remember that piece of concept art of a dilapidated greenhouse being added to the DL queue switchbacks from the 80’s(?). I believe it’s from one of the Jason Surrell books.
While I agree that a smaller sign would better blend with the rest of NOS as it currently stands, there is actually a lot of historical precedent for a facade like the Tiana’s Palace we’re getting. Based off the technology and signage around the land, NOS is heavily based off the period from...
There’s been an ongoing joke about there not being enough outlets in the attic for the Hatbox Ghost but that is unironically (sort of) what happened to the bat cage at the DL mansion.
While I know that the “Leota Rule” wasn’t some hard and fast rule they followed during the ride’s initial development and construction, it’s always been implied that Leota isn’t “just another” apparition. Just looking at design theory, she is at the center of her own room where the riders face...
Going back to the topic of former Bay Area themed attractions, does anybody remember the San Francisco Dungeon? It was the first of the Dungeon attractions to be built in the US and was located beside Fisherman's Wharf. I think it was a lot of fun (although the accuracy of the historical facts...
I believe this has been brought up earlier in the thread, but the more that comes out from insiders, the more it seems this placement was really the only option without making some serious infrastructure changes that would cost a pretty penny. I was previously under the assumption the area...
