    The rate of stretching is not linear. Ropes stretch more at first so having to shorten soon after construction is not uncommon.

    Tons of people climb that mountain every day (the gondola is not on the actual Stawamus Chief where people died but next to it.) The cutting could have been done anywhere along the lift line. There are even ladders on the towers for easy maintenance access.

    No. The door opening rails could simply be disabled. Cabins would pass through without any opportunity for people to get off.
