Question for those in the know...what time does the Hollywood Studios parking lot open on opening day? Looks like that Skyliner line will open first at 5:45 am.

Does anyone know if there's an official Disney site where these hours are posted? Also what about the Pop/AoA line which is not listed?

Once a year we put all 84 of our older gondolas in order by number to start the winter. It takes 12+ hours.

The rate of stretching is not linear. Ropes stretch more at first so having to shorten soon after construction is not uncommon.

"Fix Loose Cable" makes zero sense. More likely they are shortening the rope due to stretch.

Tons of people climb that mountain every day (the gondola is not on the actual Stawamus Chief where people died but next to it.) The cutting could have been done anywhere along the lift line. There are even ladders on the towers for easy maintenance access.

My first thought was deliberate sabotage. This gondola project was environmentally controversial. A 55 mm steel rope doesn’t just break.

Doppelmayr has built a total of four automated train systems in the US. Hogwarts Express, Mandalay Bay, MGM CityCenter and Oakland Airport BART. They make gondolas look dirt cheap. They were going to build a third system in Las Vegas but were outbid by the Boring Company.

Seems more likely this is related to train speed than cable stretch.

Usually just one bullwheel is on a movable carriage. This compensates for stretch but also temperature and load changes. Once the bullwheel nears the end of the carriage, the rope must be shortened. It isn't cut but rather unwound and re-spliced. The good thing is the Skyliner terminals are...

No. The door opening rails could simply be disabled. Cabins would pass through without any opportunity for people to get off.
