Yes. Now, how many genius mad scientist black characters do you see in those old films? How many crusading black lawyer characters, trying to bring justice to an often injust legal system?

I haven't seen anyone in favor of the Splash Mountain change ask for Cinderella to be changed or removed. What I HAVE seen is people bring up Cinderella and others in the context of "If THEY are coming for Splash Mountain, now, then what's next?!? When will it end?!?"

Br'er Rabbit- Would rather sit around and sing than do anything productive Br'er Fox- Schemer trying to get an easy meal who's not nearly as clever as he thinks Br'er Bear- big, dumb brute You see these often applied to black characters in early Hollywood films.

We've wondered that for years. "Poppycock" is fine though.

I told you specifically what attraction. You type in "Jamboree" in the search function and toggle the "this thread" option to see the specific comment. Yes. Adapted. Filtered through the lens of white folklorist Joel Chandler Harris, and then further filtered by white screen writers.

Ehh... The characters of Br'er Rabbit, Fox, and Bear are evocative of certain stereotypes of African-Americans, some of which aren't very flattering.

Yes. After we change the rides, we'll go around erasing everyone's minds with the Forget-inator, and then we shall RULE THE TRI-STATE AREA!

And, as a matter of fact, I HAVE referenced other attractions in this thread prior to the Astro Orbiter joke. If you go back a few pages, I made note of how The Country Bear Jamboree draws on traditions and imagery of the medicine show and, to a lesser extent, the minstrel show.

The Deadlands: The Weird West rpg did a New Orleans boxed set, so if it's western enough for them, it's western enough for me. (Funnily enough, they're also getting some pushback from some fans after making changes to their setting.)

And remember, a lot of the movie is flashbacks as Remus tells a story. That leaves a very brief window when slavery wasn't a thing for those to have happened.

There ARE other threads besides just this one, you know. And, again, I didn't blow off anything. In fact, I'm actually discussing it, with you, right now, IN REAL TIME.

No one's refusing. In fact, many are discussing maybe changing other attractions, like Peter Pan, the Jungle Cruise, or The Enchanted Tiki Room. There have also been changes to Pirates of The Caribbean to reflect changes in cultural mores.

Again, I have no problem with them being progressive but in a very soft, gentle way. Like the Disney Junior show Mira, Royal Detective. The show was devised to give more representation to people of Indian heritage and to celebrate Indian culture. It also doesn't even remotely try to address the...

I'm just thinking back to how years ago, when Disney removed the Confederate flag from the American Adventure Pavilion. Many were claiming this was an attempt to erase or change history, or somehow refusing to learn about the past. Many of those same posters ALSO refused to acknowledge that the...

I was throwing a bit of hyperbole in for comedic effect. But somehow it's the people who like progressive things who are "too sensitive" and "can't take a joke"

"Why do you want to pull Splash Mountain? Why can't we discuss it like grown-ups?" "Okay. While the film doesn't have any overtly negative messages like Birth Of A Nation, it does reinforce-" "LA-LA-LA! I can't hear you!" "But didn't you say-" "Do you hate Uncle Remus and want to murder him?"...

When you're at the buffet, do you grab EVERYTHING? No, people have the right to skip the Brussels sprouts if they don't want to eat them right now. Same thing with entertainment. A lot of people would just rather not deal with Song Of The South right now, and would rather put a little Princess &...

I have never called for removing anything*. I like Splash Mountain and will be sad to see it go, but I understand why, and I ultimately have no problem with Disney putting in something else. *Well okay, the Treehouse and the Speedway. I HAVE called for those two to get the boot or get changed...
