DHS Disney Confirms Muppets Take Over Rock 'n' Roller Coaster at Hollywood Studios

The key point of contention here is, can you make the Muppets fit a roller coaster? Yes you CAN. Is a roller coaster the best use of the IP, most likely no. Fans of the Muppets are not happy that the ride they will occupy is not the best medium to display the full gamut of their appeal. There is no room for Statler and Waldorf, no Sam the Eagle, no Fozzie jokes, etc....
Its pretty obvious that their motive with this is to hypothetically soften the blow of losing Muppetvision. Same reason over at MK they are putting the Walt Animatronic into COP and restoring the castles original color scheme while simultaneously destroying most of Frontierland.

Unless you're talking about the Muppets in Muppets Most Wanted. That's the one project I can think of where they're unlikable.
I loved muppets most wanted!!! “The bulls are out of control, who could have foreseen this” is one of the best muppet lines ever!

Several years ago there was that Muppets show that was like The Office. It was one of the best things The Muppets have ever been in
I 100% disagree - that was the wrong tone and the wrong writing for the muppets.

If Steve Whitmire was “difficult” to work with because he didn’t agree with that show… I don’t blame him 1 bit and it makes me love him all the more!

They maybe went a little too far with the adult humor and depressing themes, but to be fair they did course-correct about halfway through the season and made it more upbeat and family friendly. The intro is more upbeat as an identifier. But by then the reputation was already damaged.

Nothing about their style really suggests they belong in a high adrenaline launch coaster setting.

Exactly my point. It’s just a quick gag. It’s funny, but the Muppets always fully commit to the comedy, and Muppet Vision captured that perfectly. They were never just about firing characters out of cannons plus this ride won’t be anything like that scene. Muppet Vision gave them a proper stage to show off most of these characters theatrical, over the top style, which is exactly what Jim Henson understood was the right approach.

Gonzo getting shot out of a cannon doesn’t naturally translate into “well then the Muppets should have a high speed launch coaster,” especially if the ride is centered around a funk rock band whose music doesn’t even match that level of intensity.

If this was a coaster that stopped and had show scenes like The Mummy, then yeah it could be a much better fit, but thats not the type of coaster they have on their hands. Everything that has to do with the Muppets has to be done in the pre-show because once the coaster launches there isnt time for anything else other than cutouts.

It's why I think Avengers works as the DLP retheme and why I thought they'd make this another version of Incredicoaster

Superheroes better fit the pace and energy of a high speed thrill ride

I'm just happy they are replacing it before the members of Aerosmith died, and that Muppets maintains some sort of a presence. It is a decent coaster, at least when thinking about what "Disney World" offers - to me, this is actually a very solid re-theme idea. Yes, I am a Muppet Fan.

I'm also holding out hope that the Villains show is immediately replaced with something else Muppet-y in the coming years. If the "dinner show" concept at Villains Land is a real thing, this could very well have been a test for acts or even audience enjoyment. Also, there's no saying the "dinner show" actually has to even serve sit down food. It could be a schtick like the Monster's Inc Laugh floor being a "comedy lounge."

Time will tell...I'm hopeful.

My take is that I am completely content with RnRc being muppets themed as long as the villain show gets replaced by something muppets related. If this happens and the Monstropolis ends up being a hit I will have zero complaints
