MK Big Thunder Mountain to receive full retrack

Is there indications that the ride will be much smoother than what we had in the past? Asking as I had cervical disc replacement surgery in November and my restrictions are about to be lifted. Just want to be careful.
There’s no way to know really until people get on it. New track will in theory mean it’s smoother in terms of fixing unintentional roughness that came as a result of track aging, but it doesn’t mean it will smoothen what was intentionally designed intensity.

A mine train coaster is usually designed to be a little rough. The double helix is still there and that throws you around a bit in the best of ways. But the one in Florida has always been the smoothest of the 3 I’ve been on so far. (I’ll get Tokyo one day!!!)
I was fortunate to experience an iteration of BTM when it was newly open, Paris in the early 90s. I had previously ridden WDW's version before Paris too, which was over a decade older than Paris'. Except for the town sequence and parts going underneath the moat, their layouts are almost identical, so it was possible to do some pretty direct comparisons. At the time, Paris' version of BTM was noticeably less rough than WDW's (though also significantly more thrilling due to the dark and fast paced tunnels to and from the island). I haven't had the opportunity to visit Paris since then to know how bad it has gotten in recent years, but i'm sure age has taken its toll in the nearly 35 years of operation. WDW's had already gotten a bit rough even by the early 90s despite only being a bit over a decade old, and it had gotten vastly rougher in the years prior to this refurb. Not in a good way that made it more thrilling either, talking about discomfort and pain. While I'm still baffled by the decision not to tackle Space Mountain first as it's in far worse shape, WDW's BTM was also way overdue for a retrack too.

CA's was retracked a little over a decade ago. And while I can't speak from personal experience, people who rode it before and after stated that it was a massively smoother ride afterwards. Though I would imagine it's probably degraded somewhat since (unless the lifespan of track materials have improved since the 70s). I'm confident that WDW will also feel significantly smoother when it reopens too.

The helixes are just fast and thrilling to me, not what i'd call "rough". It's the twisted bits of track in the flooded town that were always the roughest part of the ride even when new. They're designed to bounce and toss you around a bit. A friend of mine seemed under the impression that they've altered this section to some degree, straightening it out somewhat so it doesn't shake you from side to side anymore. Though I couldn't really tell from the photos if true, take with a grain of salt.

We had the exact opposite experience in Paris then - I rode within days of it closing for an extended refurbishment in 2025. I was there for new years and it closed during my trip.

I don’t remember it being “in bad shape” rough - just more thrilling and faster. It was also super cold so that made it more chilling…. Literally! Haha

It was fine for my 2024 trip.
