Seems like a slippery slope falllacy. In no way is them taking away 14 acres for a low capacity attraction equivalent to them taking down something like Haunted Mansion or the castle both of which sell merchandise out of the park and are incredibly popular icons

Once again, there are plenty of scenarios that could have been played out where the river could have stayed AND we could have gotten some great attractions and the park would have been better for it.

You’ll likely say, “Disney knows best and they wanted to tear out the river”

Fair, but they aren’t replacing it with anything special. Frontier-National-park-cars won’t be as good or as long as RCR, we already know that. Furthermore, we already have a race track in a location that makes more sense, Tomorrowland.

Lastly, if we are losing that “boring old river and steamboat” that took up 14 acres for a giant cars ride that will contribute to an overall national-park-cars land, I would hate it, but at least that would make more thematic sense. Can we agree on that?

Now, if you said Cedar Point, I would agree.

Six flags and cedar fair actually merged and are 1 big company now... Hopefully the cedar fair brand drags the six flags parks up... and not the other way around.

We all have our own opinions on what provides us with utility.

If you didn't grow up with LB/ROA/TSI being an attraction, then it losing its value. It was just there as we walked by. It's different when you lived it, and have fond memories. I do not. I have them for many other aspects of the parks.

Disney is currently on a two-step process. Step 1: Become like Universal. Step 2: Become more like 6 Flags. The concept of themed lands, the entire basis upon which the parks were based, is being eroded away with the silt of the river.

You really cannot be serious with this Six Flags
stuff. They are nowhere even close to being in that realm. That would have to be a course change far, far, far more dramatic than taking the river away. Six Flags level isn’t even the next step down the ladder.

The idea I disagree with in the post I was responding to, and in other posts like it, is that not being particularly sad about this change is synonymous with a lack of regard for the more understated and nuanced things that make Disney what it is.

Are they balking at the discussion of design or are they balking at how some people here cannot engage in that conversation without talking to people like they’re either stupid or careless? It’s pretty plain to me a good bit of the resistance some posters here get to their points is not the points themselves, rather it is how they are delivered. No one is going to want to have a good faith conversation with someone who seems incapable of being respectful. A lot of posters here seem to think they know best and love to lord that over everyone else.

Well I didn’t - I don’t have any specific memories of the rivers from my first visit as a kid. I remember riding the friendship boat at Epcot but not anything about the rivers.

My enjoyment of the Liberty Belle is my enjoyment of vintage transportation - specifically steam powered. The Disney parks are the only place in the country where steamboats and Steam trains pass.

it has nothing to do with nostalgia - it’s an actual key part of the appeal of the castle park experience.

Here’s a random six flags park map. I’m very interested to see what an average WDW park map looks like in a couple of years when all of these new “improvements” are made.

Is Disney becoming six flags? Not literally and no, figuratively it’s not falling to THAT level. I’m more hung up on theming and certainly quality of the overall experience.

Additionally, in regards to that quality drop - IMO a six flags would have an off-roading cars ride, you can get something like that in a lot of places. Being transported to the frontier? That is Disney.

And I love cedar point. They recognize their space and bread +butter and play very well in it

And you (not you specifically, the royal you) don’t have to jump into conversations with such a confrontational and negative energy. One cannot talk badly to a person and then get upset when that person doesn’t respond back kindly.

The burden of evading a bad interaction should not have to fall solely on the person that is talked to in an inappropriate way. No one here is better than anyone else. No one here’s opinion or point of view matters more than anyone else’s. Though some seem to think they are the smartest, and the best, and find it appropriate to look down their nose at others.

Those posters really need to start changing the way that they speak to people because it really is unacceptable, and it is what creates most of what they complain about where other posters are concerned. And I suspect if they do make that change, they’d find a lot more people who’re willing to engage with their points in a productive and interesting way.

My first trip was in 1988 (4 years old). I've been a ton since. I think I went on the Liberty Belle once (fairly recently), and never to TSI.

I don't recall if they ever had water parades on the Liberty Belle at the MK, nor was I a feral 80s kid exploring the island.

If you didn't grow up with LB/ROA/TSI being an attraction, then it losing its value. It was just there as we walked by. It's different when you lived it, and have fond memories. I do not. I have them for many other aspects of the parks.

I barely ever went on the riverboat, guilty as charged.

That being said, it was there and had a far greater impact on me as background than it would as a ride on attraction. The sound of the whistle, the passengers waving as it passed while we would walk to splash mountain or BTM. It was an enhanced sensory experience that transported anyone around to another time and place - yesterday, tomorrow and fantasy.
