Putting solar panels on top of show buildings is one example (as the Disney resorts at Tokyo, Hong Kong and Shanghai have done to a great many of their facilities) as opposed to cutting down a forest to do it on vacant land just to try and earn brownie points with the public. Or as Paris has now done, solar panel canopies over parking lot spaces (which also incidentally provides shade to guest vehicles). These all cost money though, which is why they'd rather just reduce climate control instead.
It's all part of green theater or green washing performative actions for the feels. It just happens to have a positive associated budgetary impact. I just hope they can keep the inside queue floor from getting sticky.

Nevermind the being in the fireworks area.. nor the physical access they need post-installation.. nor the challenges of retrofitting into existing spaces.. nor the actual sq footage they desire.. nor the fact that in WDW, they'd want the utility to own the infrastructure, not them. Oh and the fact that the Toyko stuff is like 1/100th the scale of the projects at WDW.. but yeah, I'm sure it's just about making it visible for brownie points...

Your point about the utility companies has some partial merit to it, a lot of the other stuff you mention is addressing points I never made. I never once suggested every building is suitable. There are however several very clear cut cases where they were able to do so but not willing. Tron over at Shanghai for instance has panels atop its show building, WDW's clone does not.

Cutting down a forest to install a Mickey shaped solar grid on the side of a road seems like a really obvious attention seeking move compared to doing it more discretely and less disruptively elsewhere. Even ignoring the show buildings that would be suitable to do it, the solar parking lot canopies at Paris would even have still allowed them to "show off". All without destroying the environment in the process. The MK parking lot alone has 12 times the square footage as the land they tore up to install the Mickey head grid.

I'm not the first person to mention the parking canopy, and how Disney decided to go the cheap route by doing the solar farm instead. Or noted that there are suitable show buildings (new ones) that Disney opted not to install panels on.

Absolutely spectacular upgrade. I remember this is one the rides I could ride when I was 4 in 2003. I'm so happy this attraction got the love it rightfully deserved. The last few years, it definitely felt quite outdated. This is such a massive uplift and I'm so genuinely happy we have a modernized version of this ride. Now, I also really am looking forward to the Wreck it Ralph ride in Tokyo.

Fantastic overall upgrade.

Old ride was one of my most skippable across WDW but this ride, while obviously not an E-ticket or headliner, is now a ride I want to do.

The responsiveness of the blasters is way better than I expected.

Before, it was attached and only lit up a dim red laser when you fired it, and when you hit a target, you got no feedback.

Now, the laser is handheld, always on with a bright red or green laser. When you successfully have your gun on the target, it has a mirror that lights up very brightly and your blaster vibrates giving great feedback. When you shoot and hit a target it also vibrates.

The show scenes are a lot brighter and better, especially the first Zurg with the pink clouds.

The projection room scene went from easily the worst to one of the best. Before you didn’t know what to shoot, now it’s very clear, and feels collaborative as everyone shoots the same target and it’s comical seeing 20 lasers hover around and obliterate the same target.

And being able to get more than 999,999 points is also huge, you can actually compete instead of stopping if you maxed out in the first scene.

Huge upgrade and love that they’re doing this to attractions to boost the overall experience.

Do we know who is doing the voice for Buzz now? I’m 75% sure it’s Tim Allen even if it’s not it sounds way better than Pat Fraley hopefully they redub Buzz at Disneyland next.

Overall, I agree this is a great upgrade! The new targets look great, the colors throughout pop more, the tunnel scene is a great improvement! This is my favorite ride and was always nervous it would get lost to a Tomorrowland refresh one day.

I am not sure what I expected out of the queue during the refurb but a little disappointed there especially with buzz, but I guess likely not worth the money to build a single use animatronic as opposed to frozen where those are likely copies or clones of the others throughout the world. Plus the inside queue usually moves quickly.

Excited to see this during our next trip in the fall!

99% certain it's Mike McRae. He's been the new soundalike for Buzz in video games for 15 or so years. He's essentially got the same job that Pat Fraley used to have.

Any idea if the high point value targets are still there or if they have changed?

It's probably Mike, but I will admit there are some spots where he sounds a lot like Jeff Bergman (he IS the new voice of Mr. Potato Head and I know he can do a good Buzz, so I'd say it's a distinct possibility).
