MK Piston Peak and Villains Land Construction Thread

What are they rules for river vs. stream vs. creek vs. brook?

We looking at Piston Stream or Piston Babbling Brook?

It will actually be a tiny rivulet. But forced perspective will make it look like a continental basin river.

In Pandora, one of the waterfalls is just cotton balls attached to chicken wire.

Anyhoo I have a question...

What's the difference between 'shoehorned' and 'crammed down one's throat'?

Isn’t Piston Peak being slightly integrated with its surroundings based on the concept art?

That’s not the definition of shoehorned people think it is.
As the person who used the term, that's not what I'm getting at.
What I mean is that a national park like mountain and surrounding themeing is being put into a space that was not designed for such a structure from the start.
If this was all going "Beyond Big Thunder" I would have no concerns about the ability to pull it off.
But it's being constructed in a place distance and space may present an issue.
They have to do this within those constraints.
As I always say, I hope they are successful.

I mean...to be fair, that's not really what shoehorning means. Shoehorning is forcing something to fit into a space that it's in reality too big for. This was designed to fit in this space. It not being what this space was initially designed for would not make it shoehorned in.

Exactly.

We are entering a slippery slope when put such arbitrary restrictions on spaces that In reality are interchangeable.

An example of actual space shoehorning in my opinion is TBA/Splash. While yes some exterior changes were made to the ride to fit the setting it was still trying to fit a square peg into a round hole.

Since they're trying to construct a rocky mountain landscape, which of course doesn't exist in Florida, I think that a retaining wall for a rushing creek seems pretty darn necessary, and I cannot see how this could be seen as anything out of the ordinary, given the extraordinary circumstances. This may be narrower than RoA, but you can see that there appears to be a sloping grade, so this thing will probably be moving pretty fast, unlike RoA, which was pretty still. With that and the waterfall, it should make a pretty pleasant sound, as well! Doubly nice, is that it should mask the ride sound pretty darn well, too.

In my opinion, if a rocky mountain landscape doesn't belong in FL, then neither does a European Village, a castle, or desert mountains. Whether it fits in with everything as well as a Missouri River is up to both personal preference, and how well they pull it off from multiple vantage points.

In the Parks
Yes
I think Frontierland could slowly merge with piston peak and the only “western frontier” area would be big thunder.

That would allow pecos bill to become a Tianas Restaurant for example.

Westward Ho! with beignets still sticks out like a sore thumb. I don't think there is any thematic cure for Tba being shoehorned into Frontierland. Its just another example of Disney "Cut and Paste" from one park to another regardless of "fit". In Disneyland there's an entire (for lack of a better descriptive term "Louisiana") area spanning from the River Belle Terrace to Hungry Bear that includes New Orleans Square. Is there a value for swapping labels on the quick service location that will still serve bland facsimiles of regional dished plus burgers, nuggets, and vegetarian options ?

No one is saying that a Rocky Mountain landscape doesn’t belong in a park in Florida…

I don't fit in Florida thematically, it's a shoehorning situation.

This really is an exciting project to watch. Yes there have been new builds but this site holds such promise of really bringing new life to this area of the park. I am excited to see the new walking paths, food options, water features, and of course, the rides. Tianas was a big miss because the story is non-sensical. I kind of hope with cars they don’t force a story too hard- just let us ride around and enjoy nature and the beautiful scenery. Not everything has to be over explained.
