MK Villains Land Announced for Walt Disney World's Magic Kingdom

Really enjoying your posts! Welcome :)
Thank you! I knew that when I saw some of the responses here, it looked more friendly and probably better for my mental health, rather than attempting to communicate with the general social media populace, or attempting to correct a YouTuber, which I've found that some of them don't really like. 😆 (Someone actually got REALLY defensive with me a few months ago when I tried to tell him that D'Amaro is not pronounced "DeeAmaro", but kind of rhymes with tomorrow) He said "I don't care." I was like, "OK, well, have fun with your theme park channel, man! I'll just unsubscribe then" 🙃

Welcome!

We are neither friendly nor good for your mental health, but we have fun and most of us know how to pronounce D'Amaro.

Glad you're here!

The original concept was even more destructive and muddled than what actually happened.

I think exposed coaster track is what differentiates Universal and Disney. One clearly doesn’t care too much about hiding it and one attempts to when possible.

Which is fine as that what makes them unique from one another. I mean the demographics they attract also don’t tend to be the same either.

Personally I’ve been against the coaster for this land from the very start. Make it completely indoors or replace it with another dark ride of sort.

However if they find a way to smartly integrate into the surroundings with good theming I’m all for it.

I never said you had to be riding down a mountain, but they could have certainly done more to hide the tracks.

And as for the F&F Coaster, the issue isn't it being fun, it is that it is a Six Flags level of themeing. Universal used to try and do more immersive attractions, but now we are getting a big ugly mass of steel zig-zagging without much else to see or enhance the experience either on-ride or off-ride.

Most rides are fun in nature, so being fun isn't a high bar to set. That's like saying "kids like it" as an argument about something's quality. Superstar Limo was fun. Doesn't mean it was good.
Well you make an ugly coaster, cover it with netting because it’s so poorly planned that it was never meant to go over guest paths, cover up a main icon of the land, and toss in a few Spirit Halloween decorations and a store mannequin and the people will clap like seals because “atleast it’s not Disney!”

I personally think coaster track is very beautiful to look at. The geometry of it, the profiles, the way it turns and coils, I think it's incredibly, incredibly scenic. I wouldn't mind for Disney to start showing track a little bit more, if only for one attraction.

I'm just saying, it's not like Disney never does exposed coaster track.

Primeval Whirl fit the theme “parking lot carnival ride.” It’s themed as a ride in an amusement park, like California Stramin’/Incredicoaster and Goofy’s Flying School.

Goofy’s Barnstormer is just lazy and poorly-themed. My kids loved it, but no way it’s up to Disney’s standard.

TRON is hidden in the dark show building, except for the outdoor portion (which I consider to be poorly themed). Because it’s not supposed to be “the roller coaster from TRON” (there isn’t one in the films), they should have kept it indoors (like Space Mountain) or made the track look like the light trails from the films.

Slinky Dog Dash is supposed to be a toy track set in a back yard (though that one was pretty lazily executed). Gadget’s Go-Coaster did this better, in my opinion.

Being well-themed, poorly-themed, or un-themed isn’t about how fun a coaster is or how much anyone is allowed to like it. It’s about themed immersive storytelling and Disney’s commitment to the design principles Walt and early WDI pioneered.

Will brambles be a good way to hide, explain, or theme coaster tracks in Villains Land? We’ll see. But I would expect them to at least try to make a fully-themed attraction.

They might explain why they have exposed coaster track... but they still have it. Velocicoaster is the same way at IOA (Its an in universe coaster).

If disney makes an exposed coaster and say the villains built a roller coaster in this village to terrify the villagers... the coaster is "in theme" but its not a good theme (just like slinky and Primeval whirl)

They both have exposed track coasters. I wish neither did. Universal’s exposed track coasters are better themed and more fun and fit into their long-time “thrill” focus much more comfortably.

Some brambles will hide a coaster track just as well as the pointy rocks hide Velocicoaster.

The Disney Villains are not Hannibal Lecter.

Seriously, I think if Disney announced a highly-themed Villains bar it would go a long way to shutting up the “make it scary,” people.
