MK Villains Land Announced for Walt Disney World's Magic Kingdom

I really don't think this would ever have been scary on a Universal level. I just hope it's not too juvenile to be taken seriously. What ultimately happens will indicate the direction Josh will likely take the parks for better or for worse.

My favorite part was giving Len Testa credit for having insider connections... then basically saying, but lets throw that out because I don't think he's right.
It’s exactly this sort of thing that makes watching their videos difficult. They are generally well made and sometimes make good points, but more often than not they are completely unable to reckon with or even consider any points that don’t support their own vision. It’s just not interesting to listen to such a tunnel visioned perspective when there’s usually a lot more interesting things to consider when coming at a subject like this from multiple different angles. Especially angles that originate with folks who have an exceptional history of good, solid info.

When I saw their video title I rolled my eyes.

If I wanna watch an almost twenty minute video of pessimism I can just stay on these forums and read through pages.

Hi, I'm new here, but really enjoy seeing the imagineering process. Just a few things on my mind:

Villains: There's a lot that we still don't know about Villains Land, but the fact that there are seemingly two separate rumors that are getting rolled into a single one on a lot of videos makes it kind of hard to separate fact from fiction. In the beginning, I was not sure what to believe, but I do think that there's obviously some truth to Len's claim, and many people have vouched for him, here and elsewhere, so here I am at ground zero for this rumor, in hopes of separating fact from fiction. My main issue was that it was not initially clear if the claim of starting over to go bigger and bolder was referring to the entire land design or the content of the ride(s), but the latter seems more believable, to me, especially now, with the change in size and shape of the show building submission for water management permits. The second rumor was the piece that was in The Wrap, where there were additional details mentioned, like Maleficent jumping ship to the dark ride, and it becoming a water ride, while the coaster is now themed to The Emperor's New Groove, and the entire theme of the land is being reimagined to be more "family friendly". I've got to admit that this rumor just sounds more like fiction, to me. It also sounds kind of the opposite of "bigger and bolder", imo. Has Len ever confirmed or denied this, or is it a "no comment" situation? I'd hate to see people call out his credibility because they are putting words in his mouth by rolling these seemingly unconnected things into one.

Piston Peak: IMO, the initial concept art for Piston Peak seems to still be a better representation than the "fun map", and despite what content creators keep repeating about it being reimagined, it seems to be nearly identical, in layout. The main difference that I can see, is the location and possibly scale of the 2nd attraction, and that it now has a split entrance/exit. As far as we know, this is basically what they're building, and just because one shows more scale and detail, while the other dumbs it down, (probably so you can see all of the water features, which was a major early complaint) it doesn't mean that they changed course anywhere... Obviously the perspective is from two different locations, as well. One from the former riverboat landing and one from the "National Park" entrance, across from Haunted Mansion. Speaking of that landing, what are your opinions of what it's being kept for, since it's in both pieces of artwork? My guess is that it's going to be some form of "scenic overlook" of the " National Park", as the placement will be most people's first full view of the faux natural scenery when walking into the area, and it looks out at the waterfall and bridge. I live in the CO mountains, myself, so perhaps that's why my brain automatically went there. Thoughts?

Whoops, I'm sorry that I just realized that there are two different Villains Land threads, and only the construction one also includes Piston Peak. I did not intend to de-rail (or free-range) this thread on my very first post. Mods, please show mercy, but let me know if I should clip the second part of that little novel, and put it in the other thread. - Cheers!

Len didn't really confirm or deny anything in the Wrap iirc but one of his comments did leave me to believe that the direction Disney was going was similar to that but I don't believe those specific themes are confirmed at all but rather just they don't want to go "as dark" as some expected with it. They want it to still fit the MK.

As for Piston Peak, I agree overall that the two maps are basically one in the same. I would think the riverboat landing could be a decent meet and greet location with a nice backdrop perhaps for some characters like Pocahontas, Tiana, or possibly even someone knew/returning with a HM ghost of some sort. It would be super cool but it's wishful thinking. Other than that, I think it could be renovated into a covered seating area which Disney could always use.

Interesting. I never expected anything to be super dark, but I also think that some people are underestimating kids' abilities to not be scared of "twisted architecture". 😄

Also, as someone who's been on The Frankenstein Experiment, I think that people are completely overreacting on how scary they think that ride is, to be quite honest. As someone who is also old enough to have been terrified as a child by The Adventures of Snow White, I think that it's honestly maybe not even as scary as that, just way louder (and insanely fun). I recently rode the toned-down version of the infamous Snow White ride in DLP, and there's still some things that made me realize that I may have PTSD from my childhood, like those freaking tree-people coming at you! 🫣 My wife was like, "are you Okay?".

Anyway, I think that they have to find that happy medium, but I'm just saying that The Frankenstein Experiment isn't what a lot of people seem to think it is. I've actually heard about a lot of Disney execs, past and present, going there and riding it. My wife was telling me that someone she knows told her that they got on the ride with Tony Baxter in the same vehicle. I asked her if she knew who he was before getting on, and she said that she bought the ride photo, so yes! 😁 What a cool story, though, and what a souvenir!

I think I would rather see them develop that odd collection of snack booths next to the HOP into a more thematically interesting Colonial marketplace or Farmers Market with more selection (maybe from the closed snack booth by CBJ) and more complete offerings, and use the Riverboat Landing as a dining area for the market....Overlooking the falls and water features that maty or may not be there....lol An overlook would be a lovely place for an outdoor lunch...and then maybe that area across the way would look better and make more sense... Maybe Enclose the area like an old traditional town Market Hall?

If they truly want to make a scary attraction and traumatize kids they should make boat ride where for 15 minutes you just sit in front of a video screen playing this on loop:

I would pay LL prices for prime seating at the exit just to watch all the misery walking out of there! ;)

with the change in size and shape of the show building submission for water management permits.
The water management permits do not show any building footprints and the way they modify the park, they limit the need to submit water management plans for future projects. The whole park, including some existing ponds, are all now considered to be an impervious area.

The building footprints are shown in a sanitary sewer connection plan and a potable water connection plan. Water management is more specifically about storm water, not water and sewer utility services.

They should make new tech to control the climate above this area.

With new tech introduced by Josh, we should be able to get dark purple and grey clouds above villains land in no time!
