Avengers Campus: Food, Entertainment, M&G, Environment Updates

I mean, yes, in general the DCA approach is lazy, lackluster, and knee-jerk, but what did y'all want them to do here?
This, below, would have been a low-cost, low hanging fruit way to theme this. It would have also helped accomplished something they've hardly even tried at Avenger's Campus: environmental storytelling.

If AC is supposed to be the former site of Stark Industries, how come there's nothing (except tiresome signs on walls) indicating such? Where are the old Howard Stark era props and remnants (hovercars, rockets, his old office, 1940s era employee canteen with "Howard's booth" indicated by a brass sign, where he had coffee with his lead scientists each morning...?) And if they have no interest in all that lore and backstory, why did they theme the land as being the site of Stark Industries to begin with?

It's as if WDI despises Marvel because they can't even think of the cheapest, easiest elements that tie to the IP to put in this land. They adamantly refuse to acknowledge the IP's decades of fandom and history. It's really about as bad as SWGE in ignoring and failing to leverage an IP's heritage.

I sometimes wonder what modern Universal would do if they owned the Marvel brand and got to build an Epic Universe world for it. Can you imagine how much better it would be than Avenger's Campus? Ugh.
The new dining seating area opened in Avenger's Campus, re-using the old fast pass station. Predictably, the "theming" consists of a few perfunctory Stark Industries signs. Par for the course.

Given a short building with multiple open bays...

They could have done some environmental story-telling related to this being the former site of Stark Industries. This could have been Howard Stark's original vehicle maintenance garage.

Instead of more generic Stark Industries signs, with no specificity or placemaking goals, there could have been evidence of this being where Stark's earliest car designs were tinkered with. Faded -- but specific -- signs, old tools, oil spill stains and safety/non-safety zones painted on the concrete. They could have deepened our feeling of actually being somewhere remotely related to the Avenger's IP.

Maybe there’s a new White n Gray paint job coming to the Tower? We get it - the Collectors Fortress crash landed here. If the Avengers aren’t able to send it back to where it came from can they at least repaint it so it matches the rest of their campus? Might not be as much of an eye sore from Pandora 🤔

Well i'm glad there are more places for people to sit and eat. It may look basic, but it works.

The land needs a makeover aesthetically, but I'd still place Hollywood and Pixar Pier as higher priorities for the park tbh, so I'd rather they direct funding there.
Some sites online are listing the price tag at $500 million. I hope that’s wrong

Exactly.

So I'm not going to waste time complaining about this, because this is like #500 for me at best on the list of "things at DCA that need to be fixed and/or actively bother me."

Some of y'all just want to spend paragraphs complaining about little things. I'm not saying there's never any good points in those paragraphs, but I just don't understand how some of you can be so passionate about seemingly all of these little things and how horrendously wrong they are and still want to spend time and money going to these places.

Yes, Disneyland is about the small details, but some people here focus on the many small things they hate more than our government focuses on whether or not people paid their taxes.

I think many folks are wanting Disney to meet expectations...or maybe. exceed them as they used to.

Fantasmic running this long in B mode with no announcement or seeming plan in sight. The promises made when announcing Gakaxy's Edge vs what we got.

I think most of us Disney weirdos praised the brief change of Port Royale into themed expanded seating. Same with the Plaza Gardens area and how much that area has been improved upon in subtle simple ways.

But this execution isn't worthy of praise. It's not terrible, by any means, but it's so beneath Disney quality and a little effort could have shows guests they care and are trying to improve DCA instead of just using new rides as patched to a park lacking identity and charm in many areas.

They painted an old FP distribution building and added seating. It's fine.

People are acting like DLR personally promised them that this would be some mindblowing effort of placemaking and then went out of their way to spit on them right in their faces.

Yes, there are legit issues like the state of Fantasmic. But is this seating area is personally bothering anyone, I might suggest a break from the parks. Find a nice public park. Spend time with friends. Something more productive and worthy of this much mental energy.

I have taken a break from the parks. I let my pass lapse in November due to the cuts to quality and entertainment as well as the increase in construction for the next year or so.

I would just love DCA to be a place where I feel like its equal value to its ticket price. When they rebranded the park and gave it the makeover a dozen or so years ago, many of us were excited to see Disney wanting to make DCA something worth visiting. Then Avengers Campus and Pixar Pier came along.

I'm sorry if wanting landscaping/placemaking for what is intended as an inviting cozy place to sit and enjoy the parks is asking too much for $100-$200 a visit. LA County Faire isn't my gold standard.

I find it hilarious that after the Haunted Mansion store opened, everyone (including me) was complaining about the pipes along the wall behind the store so they decided to cover it up with some fake shrubbery so it would look less industrial. Now, we have a new seating area in Avengers campus and they didn’t want it to look visibly plain so they decided to theme it a little more by placing pipes on the wall to give a more industrial look.

Rule #36 at WDI: Know where to put pipes. Know where not to put pipes.

And automatically I respect you more than the people who complain about these things at great intensity and go anyway.

Me too. I just don't find this particular detail to be any worse than what has come before.

Just because you don't like it doesn't mean it's LA fair quality. I think it looks reasonably nice. Not amazing, but not awful. It doesn't particularly detract from what's around it or call attention to itself. Certainly nicer than anything that would be at any fair I've ever been to. YMMV.

Well, since it seems we’re going to keep talking about it, putting hyperbole aside it is about as underwhelming as you can get. The timing is funny, because Disney is trying to change perception of Avengers Campus with new rides on the way. I feel like this addition would’ve gotten a shrug from most of us two years ago. For all the criticism of Mission Breakout’s theming, they’ve managed to go under that bar. The sitting area didn’t have to rival Epic Universe, but it wouldn’t take much aesthetic effort to surpass our expectations for the land.
