MK New Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin Updates Coming to Walt Disney World

Apparently the Merchant of Venus signpost nameplate was missing today. If that goes too, is that the last of the 90s-era signposts? I'm trying to remember if there are others, not counting the very different Space Mountain entrance sign (which would hopefully be altered along with the much-needed re-track anyway).

Cosmic Ray's still has the 1994 signposts, albeit painted white instead of its original metallic colors; I'm not a huge fan of the current colors.

I guess they did have some money left over that was not going into destroying Frontierland.

I mean, it's basically taken over the steady modest update train that previously hit the almost unbroken line of Treehouse, Jungle Cruise, Beak & Barrel, Big Thunder, Country Bears, and Shooting Gallery/Mile House. If we end up getting Cool Ship > Buzz > Carousel of Progress > new PeopleMover scenes > Stitch replacement > Space refurb > Speedway replacement, I will be very happy. (Bonus points for cosmetic changes to Orbiter and the stage.)

Yes, but they have been doing this re-fresh in bits over the last decade. It doesn't seem that there is a unified idea other than kinda-sorta evoking the Tomorrowland of the 1970s. Also, I don't consider coating the 1994 elements in white paint an effective way of achieving the desired effect either.

I agree, but I think the major offenders that remain (mostly around Stitch) are only still there because adjustments would be wrapped into facade work for a replacement attraction.

Which knowing this management team will likely either never happen or be totally out of theme with Tomorrowland if it does.

I don’t expect much beyond refurbishments. They’re already building 5 new rides for the park.
I just think people need to adjust their expectations a little with this new era of Disney leadership.

People are so use to Iger and blaming him for every misstep taken the last decade or two that’s it’s time to move on and be more optimistic.

We are lucky every single thing announced at D23 for WDW is under construction. That’s a really good sign and shows their commitment to investing into the parks.

Absolutely. But, they will only build so many things. Meanwhile, Epcot is just sitting there.

From a new article on Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin by Ashley Carter:

The experience will also feature new Easter eggs for riders to unlock.

"We wanted to make sure that we preserved a lot of those special secrets that we know our superfans love to find," Alison said. "But now that we have all digital targets, it allowed us to actually take a look at the gameplay and add even more fun surprises. So we do encourage riders to keep a really sharp eye out as they ride."

The project also includes updates to the queue, but Imagineers weren't ready to reveal details about what those changes will be.

"We are kind of reassessing our queue," Alison said. "It's going to feel refreshed as well."

Buzz Lightyear's Space Ranger Spin features a popular character from "Toy Story." With "Toy Story 5" set to hit theaters this summer, could riders see nods to the movie in the ride?

"We're going to say keep a sharp eye out when you ride," Alison said. "There are some fun surprises that we can't wait for you guys to discover."
