Are you talking about the smoking section? That’s not nice.
Random but one thing I noticed was people will vape at night in the parks and occasionally someone will hit one in the restroom from this past trip.

I honestly don’t even get why it’s “not allowed” outdoors because it literally doesn’t bother anyone like smoking cigarettes/marijuana does, but people seem to do it regardless, and I doubt that will ever change.

It’s funny because culturally in France, so at DLP, people take smoking to another dimension😂

I wonder if that wears off as well though. Just from the few I've known that worked there more than a year in CP, they start obsessed. At the park on their off days, always jumping around there. But over the years, they can count on one hand the number of visits they actually have to the parks as a visitor.

Doing off hour service labor in excessive heat tends to wear you down

But also the realization that you aren’t ever getting ahead…outside the Mickey archways

But for real, part of the gig in a company like Disney is being charming, showmanship. Walt had it, Eisner had it, Iger had it (to an extent), Josh definitely has it.

The rest we will see ...
I was hoping some leadership and some guts to make risky decisions like fixing the DLR peoplemover and the Yeti…… Naaaaaa forgetaboutit 😡

It's so early.

Honestly, those are the types of projects and Figment that would make sense to do with the other stuff.

I feel like every Aladdin ride makes it more likely that we get Indiana Jones-type IPs that are just the right decision.

I see the difference between people that loved the parks enough to want to work there and understood how many things had to come together that led to the creation of such a special place and the ones that are obsessed with the life and take their entire self worth from being Disney
Couldn’t agree more…

Now watch how many in the PR department round here turn that and imply or outright say that Disney is “wise” to lean into the types.

It’s like Econ Upside Down
Are these "Disney Adults" here in the room with us right now?

Maybe the ones who don’t like anything about Disney anymore but keep going?

Or maybe those are “addicts” instead of “adults.”

Seriously, what do you mean to accomplish with the label?

Also, I believe much of the prior discussion of this was deleted so you may want to think twice about starting it up again.

I agree. This was the point I was trying to make. Thanks.

Also, I found this article to be an interesting perspective on the previously announced departure of Disney's Iger-appointed Chief Communications Officer, Kristina Schake (who may be a regular lurker here on WDWMagic, though we can neither confirm nor deny this...).

It seems like one or more of these:
  • Josh wants to take communications in a different direction than Iger's/Schake's and wants a clean break
  • Schake isn't on board with Josh's new direction (whatever that's going to be), so she's out
  • Josh is like, "Wait, we pay you HOW much? Can't we just use ChatGPT for that?"

you have actually made me realize that maybe the near-unlimited access to the parks for CM’s is actually what is attracting the wrong people.

Over the years I have noticed that along with the decline in quality of Cast Member interactions, came an increase in what can only be described as “Disney Adults” working at the park.

So, instead of workers focused on delivering a top tier product and unique experiences, you get a lot of fans high on their own obsession and basically working where they live…

I don’t intend to paint with a broad brush, I know many normal and hard working CM’s, but the above has largely been my experience with over the last decade.

Bottom line, limit the entry perks and bring up the benefits and wages and I guarantee you the overall experience would improve.
Personally, I have no interest in asking a multi billion dollar corporation take away one of the benefits of working for that company just because it MAYBE would be a small boost to my overall experience with cast members. That’s just not the kind of selfish lifestyle and I would hope others want to leas.

How about they keep their existing entry perks AND they raise pay? There is no real reason that one has to come at the expensive of the other other than corporate greed.

CMs deserve better pay and as much access to the parks as they want. If that attracts Disney Adults, then okay! Having people who work at the parks that actually enjoy being there sounds great to me.

Some of you act like Disney Adults have personally wronged you in some way. Are they annoying? Yeah, I can agree they can be (even though I think the stereotypical Internet, depiction of them is overblown, and only really small contingent of them). Being annoying isn’t harmful though, and certainly should not disqualify them from getting to work somewhere.

There us so little to be happy about in this world, especially when it comes to working. If somebody enjoys working at Disney because of their interests, I welcome them being there. The only negative experience I’ve had with CMs (which is rare) is encountering people who clearly don’t want to be there. If you want to improve experience, then you need to hire people that enjoy being in that environment.
