MK Cars-Themed Attractions at Magic Kingdom

I believe the reference comes from the sewer application:

Thank you. So that number is a daily average (ADF = Average Daily Flow). When people speak of the capacity of facilities they tend to think of an instantaneous capacity, how many people can fit at a given moment. But thats not the case with theme parks where visitors come and go, so to say this is project is increasing capacity by 9,000 people is not quite accurate. This area is designed to handle approximately 9,000 people over the course of a day.

Oh I know - “pretty meh” indeed. I just love the canyon so much - I loved it as a kid and still think it’s the best version of an “earthquake / disaster” type attraction the theme parks ever did.

I’m sad that era seems to be over…. I love physical effects.
Physical effects are so severely underrated and underused in today’s theme parks.

When thinking of capacity, I do not think MK will have any infrastructure/capacity problems after Cars/Villains are open.

Think back to 2019, THE PEAK of attendance when there was no Cars/Villains to absorb guests and the MK functioned just fine.

The attendance still have not recovered to 2019 levels and I do not think MK will recover to 2019 levels and we will eventually have Cars/Villains to absorb gusts, so I do not think there be any infrastructure/capacity problems.

Also, MK can close to capacity as needed. There are 3 other Disney parks and (by then) who knows how much Universal Orlando parks will have expanded by then.

Yes but not in the death by a thousand paper cuts manner Disney has been content with in recent years. And it doesn’t necessarily have to be from the ground up capacity. The spaces at SGE and MST are sitting empty. And as Penguin pointed out, they need to get some people out of MK and into the other parks. Spread em out
I don’t disagree with any of that. Nor does it change my point.

Can the monorail and ferries handle that many more people?

The hub during fireworks?

The dearth of restaurants?

Infrastructure is a limiting factor. This is why I keep saying (among other reasons) Disney needs to put at least three more rides in the "other three" parks before adding "capacity" to MK.

I’m going to push back a little bit. We’ve already had Magic Kingdom seeing these attendance levels in 2019. The real solution is to do both, simultaneously. They need to increase desirability of other parks, but they also need to take this opportunity to be forward looking on Magic Kingdom before all those efforts on other parks simply bring more people to the resort as a whole and therefore more people to Magic Kingdom.

Much as we saw in 2019, MK was simply bursting at the seams because of all the effort dumped into the Springs, DAK and DHS. Not because Mermaid was suddenly paying off.

The park was not in a great place when it had 20M gate clicks at MK. They had massive operational issues with taking anything major offline. Now they have a window, get it done, future proof it so Magic Kingdom can take E tickets offline in the future as well.

Which hopefully includes a new secondary fireworks hub and not to understate the positive capacity Tron and Starlight bring comparing that window.

Very good point. You do need to expand capacity (and maximize use of attractions) at Magic Kingdom, if you are also wanting to expand and build out the other parks.

This is a really out there question and I realize it’s not likely for a variety of reasons….

But IF Josh didn’t like the Piston Peak / Cars idea for Frontierland is it too late to change?

Like is it just site work so far that could allow the entire project to change? Or is it too far along to do that?

That’s a huge if - but I can’t help but wonder.

I see no reason why a CEO could not halt this and change direction. But I think the question is, would it make business sense for him to do so at this point.

Just my opinion, but I think TWDC doesn't like to admit mistakes so its unlikely even if Josh does not like the Cars idea that they would change course now.

There may be scope cuts (drink 'em if you got 'em) ;) but I am guessing its highly unlikely they will change course now.

These next 5 to 10 years will be interesting to watch.

It’s all a question of how much you’re willing to pay.

If he genuinely thought it wasn’t good for the long term success of the park it would.

I also realize it’s a longgggggg shot to hope for a change. But just curious if any of the work done would be to the point that it would be difficult to change course.

Just looking at - it seems they are just clearly land and prepping for construction so far - but I don’t have any knowledge of how that actually works

I think it's also important to remember that - even though I wish this were not the case - Magic Kingdom is the park that guests most associate with "Disney" and remember as "Disney." And with higher-quality competition from Universal today, guests need to recall their "Disney" experience as spectacular in order for Disney to gain and retain fans. If Disney's (perceived) "flagship park" doesn't have the most "top wow factor" areas (like World Showcase, Pandora, and Galaxy's Edge), Disney's entire reputation suffers. Conversely, if Magic Kingdom gets a game-changing land, more people go home and talk about how awesome "Disney" was.
