UAE Legoland better watch out. Knocking over Lego bricks would be very tempting.
Lego’s safe, everyone loves Denmark.

I think even Universal is safe though, neither company screams Americana like Disney.

It will actually be interesting to see if the UAE follows other designs that limit the Americana aspects of the parks to make it less American. Tokyo, Shanghai, etc feel very Disney but with very little “Americana” compared to the US parks, Paris parks, Hong Kong park, etc.

Tokyo? DisneySea has the big American Waterfront area, subdivided into pockets like Cape Cod.

Tokyo Disneyland has Westernland [Frontierland], Critter Country and World Bazaar (Main Street with a roof, same aesthetic and vibes) with all the Magic Kingdom staples.

Not sure what Americana it's missing compared to the other parks

While I think that falling flaming debris in both Dubai and Qatar today could definitely give pause to the project, I think the possible bigger issue is the instability in fuel prices that will result from this, and potentially have long-term effects. People don't like to pay for high gas prices to travel, nor do they like paying for flight prices that will rise as a result, either.

I think when they built the Hong Kong park, they were leaning very heavily on Chinese cultural influences which I think hurt the park in the end... The Chinese wanted to experience a DISNEY theme park.... with a lot of attractions...and Eisner team was betting they would want to shop and eat more.... which I think hampered the park in its early years, and hastened the addition of more attractions almost immediately....

Does Disney care? They ll be happy to collect that sweet sweet licensing money. I’m sure this sort of thing had to have been considered before they signed the contract.
You give the desperate Napoleon far too much credit for “insight”…this was not part of his sad endgame

Which I still reserve the right to not buy until I see it happen

He quit…he engineered he own “comeback”…he hung around…and he failed

Tale of the tape at this point.

The Dubai thing is just as ill advised as the Shanghai one…

Don’t let the door hit ya, little man 🤪
I’m sorry, I should have been detailed with my question. I don’t understand what you think his endgame was with Abu Dhabi?

All true but if/when it’s built it will instantly become the most American icon in that part of the world, I think for that reason alone it would be a primary target in conflicts like this, not for financial or strategic reasons, purely for propaganda reasons. I think the idea of a Disney park in flames being broadcast worldwide on prime time news would give the attackers exactly the type of impact they’d want.

Thankfully the defenses around all these countries seem to be holding up, it’s a horrible thought none the less though.
Disneyland was a known target of the thwarted New Year's Eve 2000 plots.

Every time this country pokes a bear, that bear looks for symbols of Americana to strike.

Literally a Hail Mary

He “came back to save”…and did nothing. They’re objectively in a worst place now than 4 years ago…way lower value when compared to competitors in the market…struggling with their brands and customer base
And this is a ploy. You say you’re doing something “big” but leave before anything is done.

I hate to be so cynical…but I’ve literally been warning about this guy for 20 years on this and the OTHER forum. And I’m the first to admit I hate being right about these things.

Thank you for elaborating.

I have even called you out for being overly cantankerous on a couple threads but do think you’re for the most part correct about Iger and I do overall respect your opinion and thank you for sharing it.

Definitely a period of instability coming, but I think people are underrating the potential that the region may get much more stable in the long run as a result of this week's developments, aka good for Disney and regional tourism.
That’s the hope.

With the mass marches the last few months I think the citizens have shown they want change, whether that’ll be allowed to happen is probably a 50/50 chance, I wish them luck.

Hey!!

I’m always cantankerous, mister 😡

I’ll let you in on a secret that some struggle with here: I want good Disney product. That will never change

I won’t get out my Pom Pom’s when it’s bad as some sort of sad personal coping mechanism though.

The truth should have it’s day and every other day

I'd say "locals" more than "Chinese" as there's a huge difference between Hong Kong residents and mainland Chinese

That park was negotiated while it was under British control.

In short: the center committee lied…of course. Also…they have really dumb lawyers working for them.

But that was an Eisner mistake. Also…he was shell shocked by euro…trying not to “offend the locals” for a second time.
