MK Villains Land Announced for Walt Disney World's Magic Kingdom

The site that shall not be named has essentially called this BS. Honestly, he does make a good point at how ridiculous a Madame Medusa restaurant would be versus a big hitter.
I tend to agree that the Madame Medusa theme to the restaurant makes me question the accuracy of the article. That just seems so far in left field as to just not be right. That doesn’t mean that other parts of the article are not correct - they have sources - but I’m not taking it as gospel either. I’m assuming it has some accuracy but not the full picture.

Regarding the Emperor’s New Groove coaster, maybe bigger and bolder doesn’t equate to intensity or overtly dark theming. Maybe the launch four this coaster would have AAs of Yzma and Kronk. Kronk is ordered to pull a lever and that launches the coaster. Maybe there are two tracks, one goes forward and one goes in reverse. The track length could be longer. There are a number of scenarios that could make this a great coaster without it having to force your stomach into your throat. They could be a show scene or show scenes involved.

I don’t think that the source is making things up, but let’s see a firm proposal from Disney first.

Even the Kronk/Yzma coasted while making more sense to me is still out of left field. Personally, and this is a little bit of my opinion I wouldn’t chose them to be the theme of a coaster when real estate is so limited. Now if that was a scene that happened in the coaster sure but an entire theme I have my doubts.

No issue with Mal headlining the main attractions but would also like to see other villains included. Mal is arguably though one of the most iconic.

No issue with a Hades restaurant. Villains land should have an edge to it. It doesn’t need to be scary per se but needs to have an edge.

Would there be enough room for something like Hagrids and a mega E ticket boat ride? I’d imagine no? I guess my school of thought is that one of the experiences in the land was always going to play second fiddle due to space constraints and/ or budgets. In this iteration of the land it’s the coaster. So in my mind it comes down to one’s preference of a having a state of the art boat ride or a state of the art coaster. I think that MK not only needs the state of the art boat ride more but it’s better suited for the parks demo. Not to mention if we’re talking about using an IP to its full potential the boat ride would seem like the way to go for Maleficent.

I don't like the comparison to Slinky Dog for the coaster though.

Disney opened a ride based on 1944's The Three Caballeros in 2007

They can pull a deep cut reference if they want to
Disney did a Three Caballeros overlay because that's the only IP they had in 2007 that fit the Mexico pavillion

Also, the movie may be a deep cut, but Donald is one of the highest selling merch characters there is.
Not that deep of a cut

Possible layout taking into account which buildings have potable water connections and which don't:

Agreed - emperors new coaster seems very unlikely for this land - unless it’s a more basic kids coaster that has been added?
If there is an Yzma coaster, I don’t think the architecture of ENG will be integrated. Remember, this land is basically a new gathering place for the Villains, not a recreation of a particular movie. That’s why the Imagineers say they like this project so much. Because although the characters aren’t original, the land basically is.

I’d like to know how the show building size for the boat ride compares to Shangai POTC.
I think it’s pretty much guaranteed that the building above Haunted Mansion is the dark ride (unclear if boat or not). But, I strongly suspect it’s a multi-level show building. The Haunted Mansion being in the way allows them to build higher and only theme the very top of it if necessary (besides the primary facade, of course). Building higher also allows them to integrate shops and dining into the same building.

Then they could have just had Donald. Or some other characters, made it Mickey, Donald and Goofy etc or done nothing and left the ride as is because they didn't have a newer animated release set in Mexico.

They chose to use all three characters, the title song and other aspects of the movie, which was not seeing some major renewed interest in the mid 2000s. They moved forward with that concept because they felt it had the best potential, despite the obscurity of some aspects of the source material.

And that's what they're rumored to do with Villains here. Not just the obvious choices, but a wider selection of characters that they feel will better fit the tone and audience of what they're building.

Agreed on all fronts. My fear is that they give us another Seven Dwarves Mine Train type womp womp. When they announced it and showed art, everyone was excited for another Big Thunder with cute fun storytelling. Instead we got Barnstormer with rockwork.

If they want this addition to be a success, it has to be a better coaster than SDMT and SDD. Hopefully with better flow and fewer start/stops than Everest and Tron.

Ideally, it would be 3 C ticket darkrides that can flip the script in fun ways; a spinner, a scary coaster, and a family coaster/water ride.

I would love to see a fun ENG coaster that had multiple launches/drop tracks/track switches to keep the ride feeling unpredictable and cooky that illicits glee. A big intimidating coaster themed to Maleficent that acts as backdrop for the land. A spinner/swings themed to Chernabog and the wraiths which circle about. Then throw in a Hercules river Styx water-based darkride/vibe ride (Storybookland), a Headless Horseman ride (Mr. Toad/Snow White), and Cruella darkride (Roger Rabbit's CTS).

Make it a full land just like Fantasyland! But a Disneyland FL with teeth rather than the WDW FL.
