MK Villains Land Announced for Walt Disney World's Magic Kingdom

Yeah, I don't think downgraded coaster and a fourth spinner ride is the answer here. This was an exciting project because they were pushing what can belong in the magic kingdom. This "update" feels like more of the same, and similar to New Fantasyland. I fear this expansion will end up a ghost town if they keep down this path.

Keep the Hades Banquet though, that sounds great!

If the main ride is just based on one character and not some crazy, zany, and extremely fun ride including as many Disney Villains that you can.... I'm going to be pretty p***ed. And I think I might be speaking for many others.
I kiiind of disagree. No ride elsewhere attempts to mash together tons of unlike things. Only shows (e.g. Fantasmic, Happily Ever After, etc.) do that. The land itself is supposed to be the element that makes thematic sense of otherwise disparate things, with the rides generally being internally consistent. While, like others, I think Emperor's New Groove makes so little sense that I distrust the broader article, I wouldn't mind at all if the rides weren't just clipshow melanges.

So what do we think about this being a case of testing the waters for which way they should go?
I think it's indicative of the mess that is WDI right now.

Family friendly is good, because that needs to be their target guest. I'm just hoping they still have the ability to do family friendly with broad general appeal and not just geared for 3-10 year old princesses.

I'm just wary that family friendly may also mean budget cut.

If they want to have a bit of a more family friendly approach, why not have the best of both worlds?

I've been thinking of something recently ever since the news/rumor of the "Bigger and bolder" and my mind went directly to more land and more rides.
By this I mean something like an inspiration from old Fantasyland. Have the eery land and the two big, main, rides, but then have something like another area called "Villains Village" or something and it be filled with like 2-3 classic FL busbar rides. Make them the same way as they used to be made and the story could be that the Villains built this village and remade the rides for them to win in the end. It could be as cheesy and "family friendly" as they want with plastic cutouts everywhere and very low quality AA's that the villains built.
You could have like a version of a Peter Pan ride more on Hook to be an opposite to PPF.
We can finally get an Alice busbar ride here, all about the Queen of Hearts.
etc.. etc..
Then this doesn't take away from them making the main area more "scary"

It is almost like they are once again getting nervous about doing something too edgy at MK. If the reporting is to be believed.
It's bitten them every time they've tried it.

Edgy doesn't belong at the MK. It's also the realization that you really can't make anything edgy when at most Disney Villains are PG rated.

I think it's the weird fantasy of some Disney Adults hoping that they can experience a "Dark" Disney that in reality never existed throughout their story telling.

I completely get what you're saying.

I guess I do want (and have been envisioning this whole time) Fantasmic the ride, or Monsters Unchained but with Disney Villains. I get that maybe it makes no sense.

When I say edgy, I don't mean adult edgy. I mean appealing more than to the 5 year old. They have an opportunity to make this really cool...not cheesy.

Gotcha.

For sure the experience has been dumbed down, you can look at some of the recent product from WDI to see that they can't get balance right of general appeal. But I can sense the feeling of disappointment by the Disney Adults that this won't be "dark".

I think some of us are selling them a little short on that boat ride.

This roster is more balanced than the original proposal. At the end of the day, they seem to have decided Tron is the most intense they’ll go with here.

And to be fair, Berk is more popular than Dark Universe.

My only lineup critique is: go with a different flat ride. There are many options.
