News Josh D’Amaro Named Next CEO of The Walt Disney Company

He did give up the office once he was off the board according to the articles, or do you mean while he was no longer CEO and just on the board?

As for meddling once he was gone, not a single thing Iger did from the sidelines made Chapek commit some serious unforced errors that cost him his job. Bottom line is that no matter what Iger wanted, if Chapek had done well, he would still be there.

Not that it really matters at this point, but that is why I push back on the Iger controlled it all narrative.
Did you see where I was talking about holding onto scapegoats for fantasies? This is textbook.

One guy is responsible for all that is there. Because it took decades. The last legitimate concerns he MAY have had to keep an eye on died in 2009 and 2010. It’s been unchecked ever since. That’s not healthy for any mid sized company…let alone a behemoth.

None of these things are that hard to sniff out…you don’t need to be a billionaire to get a read on what humans do and why?

The irony is if he actually listened, he might have survived. Chapek undermined himself and blew up his own career, no one else.

He wasn’t given the best hand, but he ignored all the advice and basically did the opposite at every opportunity. It’s why the Chapek made no decisions crowd just look
conspiratorial. It’s not supported by anything we witnessed over those few years.

Yes, one guy is largely responsible for all this, Iger. No where did I say otherwise. All that was said was that Iger DID leave and that Chapek WAS the CEO and he would still be there if he wasn't such a moron.

Pointing out how bad of a job Chapek did is not the same as saying everything about the company today is somehow his fault. You are reading into things that aren't there.

That’s the narrative…the events just don’t line up with them.

That was removed under Eisner and we certainly know Iger didn't care to address it in his entire tenure.
To me, a real leader sees a problem and corrects it regardless of who did it.

Yes its been broken since Eisner, that makes it even worse.

What a monumental achievement would it be for Josh to #RestoreTheDLRPeopleMover !!!!!!! 😍

This is off the charts dreaming and magical thinking!!!!!!
Now that you mention it, Iger never actually fixed any of the problems Eisner created, did he? He mostly just destroyed the stuff Eisner did right (Splash Mountain, the Great Movie Ride, etc). The stuff Eisner did wrong, he just made worse (see also EPCOT).

I mean, he did do the California Adventure overhaul... only to start making the park worse a few years after that with stuff like PIXAR Pier and the mediocre Marvel rides.

A lot of the more sinister Eisner people (strategic planning veterans mostly) were still in the company during the early Iger years. SaveDisney largely failed in its intentions, unfortunately. Giving Roy E. the Emeritus role was a ploy to shut him up and he passed away only a few years later, anyway.

You know, I put a lot of thought into it today, Josh is probably the best thing to happen to the parks since early Eisner.

We best not sleep on that.

Could end up going sideways, if you live long enough you eventually become the villain after all, but he’s bringing with him an angle and energy that’s been so needed.

I don't think D,Amaro will be as bad as Chapek but I doubt he won't be much better than Iger.
And that’s a smart position now…with the record we have…

No I want much better than that…we all do. It would be nice to celebrate achievement in this hood…and good times for all of us.

But immediately everyone came up with the ether to convince themselves it’s a given

“He loves parks”
“He actually gets it…”

nothing to substantiate that. At all. It’s a fantasy…for now

His death was a huge loss. And he wasn’t even involved. Because he was the only with the gravitas to call out the mistakes of the Iger reign…and he would have. Lost forever.
