I don’t think I ever implied that I believe Chapek was a true successor, but it is a fact that he held the CEO position, even if it was in name only for a period of time. But I don’t think anything that he did was worth any type of applaud

…spread the word around here…there are STILL people who couldn’t follow the flow chart of events.

Disney fans have always been notorious in not giving up their scapegoats to protect their own comfortable feelings…which are usually surrounding false narratives.

Except he literally was.

Maybe Iger had some master plan from the get-go, maybe he didn't. It really doesn't matter. At the end of the day, Chapek survived until Iger was no longer there. Chapek was in charge while Iger was reduced to grousing from the sidelines at home. It was Chapek and his own moronic incompetence that brought Iger back. If he was a halfway competent CEO, he would still be there.

Sorry, I just have no sympathy for him as I have been in the position to have the previous guy making noise behind the scenes and it is just something you have to deal with. Getting results is normally enough to shut everyone up but instead Chapek managed to drop the stock by about $50 a share in the 11 months he was 100% free of Iger while also p-ing off most of his employees.

The parks are a thematic mess, as well. That is currently my biggest issue.

Animal Kingdom is on its way to solidifying itself as the “spare park” and Magic is on its way to being as thematically incoherent as Animal Kingdom. Epcot makes slightly more sense, but I still don’t understand how Guardians or Moana fit in the theme.

Iger never gave up his office. He was chairman of the board through 12/31/2021, meddling with Chapek for almost 2 years. He then continued to meddle behind the scenes for another 11 months, until he pounced and reluctantly returned.

The simple truth here is that the company was NEVER pushing Iger out. What they wanted was stability and reassurance and guidance. Some things he seemed quite poor at managing because he seemed to not really know where his heart was at (politics, falling in and out of love of big aquisitions and projects, etc).

IF Iger had merely stated in 2012 he was still young and felt he could lead the company well for another decade; no one would have pushed him out and all successor talk would have immediately died. But instead he kept doing the maybe two years thing. Probably because he honestly considered a presidential run then bailed, then got excited by Fox and streaming.

I take away the opposite from this. The issue was not that Chapek had too little autonomy, it’s that he immediately changed too much and there was major resistance. He kept ignoring advice until the whole situation became petulant.

What the company needs is not another Chapek who wants to immediately make their stamp and undermine the culture. They need a collaborator and steady hand.

That’s the only way major infrastructure really occurs these days. Long term management that want to preserve the vision. If the company lurches every time a budget overruns or a geopolitical event occurs, suddenly 5-7 years later we find a dead pipeline.

It could be all company propaganda, but we already have acknowledgement of a number of experiences related strategies that were really not Iger initiatives, but Josh ones. So I’d certainly hope he sticks the course that he himself defined.

He did give up the office once he was off the board according to the articles, or do you mean while he was no longer CEO and just on the board?

As for meddling once he was gone, not a single thing Iger did from the sidelines made Chapek commit some serious unforced errors that cost him his job. Bottom line is that no matter what Iger wanted, if Chapek had done well, he would still be there.

Not that it really matters at this point, but that is why I push back on the Iger controlled it all narrative.

Nothing makes sense

In DAK they could sorta sell it if they…you know…added in new animals to augment their IP overlays…but they won’t because they cost overhead
