MK Piston Peak and Villains Land Construction Thread

Villain Land would be the perfect opportunity to revive the Sleepy Hollow dark ride. I remember Jim Hill and Len discussed how WDW almost got a Sleepy Hollow dark ride that had guests in Ichabod's POV (similar to the original version of Snow White's Adventures) during the park's development.
Which episode is that?

Yes how will they ever translate a game set in a medieval fantasy world where a chosen hero must save a princess with magical powers from an evil sorcerer.

I mean... this is exactly my point?

It's pretty generic as a setting. There's not really anything that's going to make you stand in a land and think "this is Legend of Zelda!". Just because something is popular doesn't automatically mean it's a good fit as a theme park setting.

To be clear, I'm not suggesting that means a Zelda land would be a failure or anything even remotely close to that. Just that it doesn't feel like a great property to use for a land.

I think we'd all prefer to wait a year and it surpass expectations than come out on time and be an utter letdown.
Meanwhile at WDI…

A Jabba’s Palace themed restaurant in GE would’ve been great and made perfect sense but that would’ve been based on the older films which was a no go for Kathy Kennedy.
There was a venue like that, the Kalikori Club, that Chapek cut which would have featured a live show. Oga’s was its entrance/bar. You can see where it would have gone in satellite imagery.

This is the typical MO for Disney, always spin a negative into a positive.

Whatever WDI had proposed was so bad that even the executives held their nose at it. So what’s the easiest way to save face when confronted with complete failure, say you’re going to plus it or max it or turbo charge it or activate it or whatever nonsense jargon someone came up with.

WDI has been on a big losing streak lately with a lot of total crap things they’ve put out which has far outnumbered the few good things. With actual competition up I 4, they’re actually gonna have to do some work.

With the amount of “Ifs” and “Buts” we’ve had since Al gore invented the internet…we could all be Mr. peanut

Zelda minor?

Breath of the Wild stands at the #4 best selling Switch games of all time and Tears of the Kingdom is also in the top 10. Zelda games have consistently been in the top 5 first party games for Nintendo with virtually every system (often times being the first first party game to debut on the system.) It is not a niche game. There is a reason that Epic Store has Zelda stained glass windows and sells Zelda merchandise.

I never meant it niche. I meant compared to Mario and Pokemon (as a whole), it did feel like the most minor and talked of the major 3. But I will concede the point that I did not know just how popular Zelda was. I'm not huge into Nintendo, that's more my fiancee.

I’m one section over from you in the stadium…

I think this is crafted move so that D’Amaro can claim “change” for a little Early bump. They have been in corporate damage control for 5 years and need all the juju they can get.

Was it his idea? I highly doubt it…but the net effect could be a small victory/positive?

This is “optimistic” me 🥸

I imagine what actually happened was that there was multiple stages of planning etc on this and they clearly had concerns over budget considering how often budget cuts happen. Someone internally told them not to care about the budget and make something really cool.

Random person on forums who never heard this conversation or know what was depicted decided that it means what was depicted was so horrible that everyone just hated it despite being directly mentioned as most likely untrue by the insider who originally posted the rumor.

Or and hear me out, I think Josh has a more personal connection to this particular project and wants it to impress as his personal first major expansion as new CEO. I mean it had a whole bit in the last full D23 with the mirror mentioning him by name etc. It's clear that he wants this one to be "his" major project to open with

You know what's funny?
And we can always count on you to spin a positive into a negative. Funny how that works. Projection much?
It is absolutely a negative that they had to scrap plans this far into the process. It must have been bad and I think it’s clear that there is a systemic issue within the company. And here we all were blindly celebrating a villains land.

Hopefully this change in direction will turn out to be a positive. At least they recognize the error of their ways. But nothing is guaranteed.

I’m kinda saying the same thing…they basically have had to announce a corporate pivot over the last few weeks.

They can’t treat parks as “those things…” as they have under Bob. Because he made no secret about it…

The there has been all but an acknowledged now that the money has to come from parks…It’s not gonna be studios…and it sure as hell isn’t gonna be wifi cable packages…

So they have to give this stuff way more lip service than they have the last 20 years…that’s just where we are.

this is not "that late"?

The land is still being cleared. This is quite literally recently how Disney builds stuff. The land wasn't even due for another 4 years man. 4 years is plenty of time to plus some stuff as Len mentioned??
