MK Piston Peak and Villains Land Construction Thread

I don’t see the patent talking about steering at all, but stuff like inclines and declines on the track clearly fits what it’s covering. And that’s really the point — it’s not about guests driving the ride, it’s about the track and vehicle being able to change and react dynamically, which is a different level of complexity.
I think you folks are over thinking this thing. I don't know what the attached to arms thing is or even if it is intended in the Piston Peak area. That said, it is my belief that if you want to know what the major ride will be like, just look at the Cars Land in Disneyland. I believe it will be the same kind of thing. No driver, over hill and dale and the same mechanical system that is currently in Disneyland. The path will look like it is dirt, but it will not be, it will be a slotted car ride of varying speeds with a couple show sections and that is it. It still looks like it might be fun though. Cars in Anahiem are still maintaining popularity.

I am hopeful it translates towards “add more elements” as opposed to start over. More retail and dining, more set dressing. More entertainment. Strengthen the ride scopes. Galaxies Edge but instead of removing key elements, more are being requested.
My main hope would honestly just be at least +1 ride in addition to the two generally taken as a given. It desperately needs something sub-D to absorb more people.

I suspect Josh read my incessant posts about how all the land clearing beyond the RR track must mean they will put show buidings /coaster back there and preserve the old rivers area for the main shopping / walking area, and he finally relented, seeing how much sense I was making ....

In seriousness, this potential revamp/ expansion (and I know I'm inserting "expansion" into this, although it was not said above), could be a great sign. There truly is an enormous chunk of land (someone will google earth it, but it appears to be close to the 12-14 acres all told) and this is a land with fantastic potential.

Perhaps Disney did notice the popularity of Universal's Dark Universe land, but observed its limits and figured this land could be a smash with the right size and rides /details.

My hopes for Villains:

- Kinetic energy in the form of water, lights, and perhaps other mediums I'm not thinking of. To my mind Villains is an extremely ethereal place, and having it look to "solid", for want of a better word, would ruin the effect. There should be something intangible about it.

- On that same note: shade. Lots of shade. In part because villains = darkness, but mostly because Florida is hot. Just put the whole thing under a giant sun shade please. (Ok not really, but shade!)

- An area for shows and even festivals. Halloween would be an obvious time but they could also do something with Mardi Gras and Dr. Facilier, do a play on "Christmas in July" with "Spookfest in July", etc.

- A "boo-tique" geared towards older kids, with Descendants or Villains makeovers. If they let me do an auntie and me makeover with my niece I will literally just run in and throw my credit card at them, ha ha. Kidding. Kind of.

- Nooks and crannies, not "statues" (thinking of how everything in Toy Story land is tall, out of reach, and not meant to be interacted with - very visually appealing, but I really prefer an area like World Showcase.) Interactive elements would be a bonus, but the more I think about it, the more I feel it's the little things that make a difference. Just a bridge to walk on, a fountain with an edge to sit on, etc., can make a land feel like a place you're actually in vs. looking at on a series of walking paths.

- Rides: mixed feelings. I would love love love something like a Shanghai Pirates. That said, if I had to choose between that overtaking half the budget on one hand, and simpler rides but better ambiance in the land itself - I would choose the latter. I don't want an E ticket to cannibalize the budget.

- If they're going to have interactive technology in the form of a game or even just screens to order food, I feel like the Magic Mirror absolutely has to be involved.

- Land specific food and drink, although I assume that's a given. So many possibilities there. Similarly, assume a great night lighting package is a given as they do that for most things these days and Villains will probably be the most visited area at night. Would love to see some cool moving projection mapping effects at night - relatively inexpensive and there's so much they could do with that.

Vertical rebar for the retaining wall now going in. The wood strips down the roughly center of the winding forms establishes the edge of the raised central "ground" area of Piston Peak. Once that's backfilled with dirt they can put in drainage/utilities, and then start construction on the buildings/attraction proper. The area between these wood strips and the shoreline is the "river zone."

Good catch on the rebar. I agree, it does seem to be for a retaining wall.

What do you mean by “scrapped”?

We’ve seen iterations of rides and concepts where we have publicly known elements that are removed (Toy Story land and SDMT come to mind). By scrapped I assume you mean sent back to improve and iterate on it?

The gist of it, as I understand it, was that WDI’s pitch was not big or bold enough.

I don’t know if that original pitch was designed to hit some earlier-specified budget someone had in mind, or they were doing “value engineering” before anyone told them to.

I do get the sense that the “think bigger” happened late last year or early this year.

I hope always-night is part of their "think bigger" plans. A fully indoor concept is a shoe-in for this location and for villains. Spooky moonlight and flickering lanterns all day, plus no fireworks fallout concerns at night.

Since we're spitballing, move IASW to epcot where it belongs and make Villainsland a walkthrough instead of a dead end.
