Disney (and others) at the Box Office - Current State of Affairs

I think that’s probably most people’s experiences for most halftimes, including this one, unless it’s someone specific you’re a fan of it’s just something playing in the background while you’re doing other things.
In most cases yeah. Just this year another organization decided to make their own. The naming of the alternative show wasn’t all that helpful considering everyone who performed in Bad Bunny’s show would also fit to be called the same thing.

Agree, the political aspects made it bizarre, that said the cats out of the bag now and I think it’ll be the new norm (with or without the political slant), the funny thing is had there been an alternative show the last 10 years I’d probably have watched those too, the last show I remember being excited for was Justin Timberlake or Bruno Mars, whichever was later.

If an alternative show is created and called the [insert sponsor or organization ] spectacle/halftime show *maybe* there isn’t the level of noise created for example:

Coca Cola Classic Rock/Heavy Metal Spectacle

Instead you got a targeted naming convention with the intention of enflaming things across whatever belief. Which honestly, brought more conversation about the main halftime show after the fact than any previous halftime show.

This is so crazy. Puerto Rico is part of America and Big Bunny is the hottest international star.

Shouldn’t we be proud of him instead of fussing about him singing in Spanish?

I don’t hear the Chinese government disavowing Eileen Gu.

I agree with you. I wasn’t bothered that he sung his songs the way they were meant to. I got enough of the story he was trying to tell without knowing what he was singing and I thought it was a fun halftime show. I also wouldn’t watch an alternative halftime show.

Is it my favorite, no, but his music is also not something I listen to. Doesn’t change he put on a solid show that told a story if you paid attention.

He also inspired me to learn a little about what he and Ricky Martin were singing about. Expanding one’s horizons is always a good thing.

Fun to see you’re at your old tricks. Your original message was laden with false conclusions and bad faith framing. Let’s break it down:

1) It didn’t break the previous record, so wrong, and
2) Using your own logic, it was not a success by all measures. The overall viewership and halftime viewership were down in terms of Nielsen and streaming numbers, in some cases substantially as compared to last year.

It’s not clear what point you were trying to bring up here. It’s unfortunate that you chose to chime in so stridently before the cleanest numbers came in, but here we are. Next time don’t pick cultural fights and stake out hardline positions then cry that others have an “agenda” when your facts don’t bear out.
First it wasn't my message, it actually was being reported at the time that the initial numbers showed that it broke all records. Even after the updated numbers came in and were revised downward its still one of the most viewed halftime shows in history, meaning its STILL a success by all measure. To say otherwise is just false and trying to push an agenda. This is no different than initial weekend numbers coming out for a movie and it being reported that a certain movie made X amount and it being a success and then it was revised downward on Monday or Tuesday, doesn't make the statement of it being a success any less valid.

My point as I said before was that even if some here didn't appreciate the halftime show it was still one of the most viewed shows in history with a current pop culture icon.

Imagine being this angry at a message of love and unity

I'll go a different direction, I'm sort of shocked the Super Bowl numbers were as high as they were. I'm not sure I've ever been more bored during a Super Bowl, and as much as the announcers tried to push the "Greatest defensive performance ever" nonsense, it was really bad. My teen, who watched her first football game (for commercials, and she was angry about them after for what it's worth) legit turned to me in the 3rd and said "How in the world did the Patriots make it to the Super Bowl?"

All this halftime talk got me scrolling wikipedia. Apparently in 1993, the halftime show theme was Indiana Jones and the Temple of the Forbidden Eye!
It actually has me wondering what Disney will do for halftime now that they have the Super Bowl back, they put out some real stinkers back in the old days, straight up Disney commercials very thinly disguised as a halftime show

The Networks don’t put on the halftime show. It’s contracted out by the NFL currently to Jay-Zs Roc Nation. I don’t know how long the extension was, but they got an extension in 2024 after the first 5 years of the contract.
