Can’t really argue against any of your points, my only counter would be that I believe if they did make it free there would be enough eyeballs to justify companies paying a lot more for ads.

Here's the thing tho - they know the differences in scale.. and they know the ad rates for both the low volume and high volume stuff. So basically they already know what is needed to make the math work.. and they don't. That should tell you what you need to know.. because we know it's not because they don't like money.

The ad rates aren't in a vacuum... you are competing with the other platforms.. so the alternatives and pricing models are out there already.

That goes against the more recent “instant gratification” generations. You expect people to… *gasp!* wait for something???

(For the record, I’m fully in favor of some kind of tiered release schedule for movies post-theatrical run)
Even waiting every three years for new Star Wars movies as it was during the prequel days seems quaint now, For better or worse.

Streaming is not anywhere close the same cost as cable unless you decide to subscribe to everything. And you think streaming is going to pop soon? Lol. ok.
The money that made cable successful was far better for Disney on all levels than what streaming takes…as it stand

Most of the overhead was NOT on the TWDC and the revenue it generated was a lot of cash for little outlay.

That could change…but it was never gonna be “easier”

Does Bob give up his office with the shower? That will tell you everything.

If you hear grumblings from within the town that Bob is unhappy with where his company is going, rest assured he'll do or is doing everything he can to destroy Josh.
If Josh doesn’t work out , Dana is there and can be an interim CEO until a new one is selected by the Board. If Josh is looking to move into a bigger home , Chapek still unemployed listed his home asking $15M for it.

Dana won the consolation prize and the "newly created" position was just a kludge to satisfy any complaints about gender playing a role in the decision to pick Josh. The creative position is malarkey, the fair comparison is to KK, and she has just as much "creative" ability as KK and we all saw how Star Wars turned out. But Dana was also in a position to make decisions on a lot of Marvel and other D+ slop that came to air as well....so....yeah.

If anything her being there creates a headache for Josh, because now Alan (person who actually is good at his job) now reports to her (and she was terrible at her job). It's now a question of who leaves for greener pastures...I hear Netflix needs a new studio head soon and has lots of $$$ to throw around.

With regard to Bob, if or when Josh flames out, rest assured Bob is waiting and he'll push everyone aside to come back on a "temporary" basis, including Dana.

It was a good move though. Bring in an outside group to check any biases you may have that you are blind to.

Having an external group advise is a good thing. The board may or may not have listened to them, but it is always good to get an external opinion on something like this. Even more so after the mess last time.
It's incestuous...Yeah the guy who ran JP Morgan and is now COB has someone from JP Morgan come in to run Investor Relations and Strategy...

Other than a passing thought about external candidates (who were likely more talented than anyone at Disney...like Staggs), it was Josh's position to loose from the start.

I would bet a crisp new $1 bill, that there was the realization that the internal workings of Disney are so dysfunctional that anyone coming in from the outside would have to tear it all down...and that it was easier to just keep leadership from those in house and kick the can down the road...until they break it up and sell it???

I mean if it were so great, wouldn't $DIS at least be higher than it was in 2015? I mean if it just kept with the S&P Average it should be at $300/share.

Nothing at all about anything the last 5 years implies “external” in any way

It’s all so scripted…and the script isn’t clever at all

If I had to sum it up in a picture…this would be it:

I think they’re just bitter Gen Xers who remember when Tv was free and you paid money for cable so you didn’t have to see ads.

One of the biggest scams Hollywood ever pulled off was charging for cable because there wasn’t ads and then putting ads on it and keeping the payment scheme anyway. Paying $100-200 a month to watch commercials is still one of my biggest pet peeves in life, which probably explains why I’m now on the most basic cable plan and 90% of my tv viewing is YouTube.

I have no problem spending thousands on a vacation but I draw the line on paying to watch commercials.
What multiverse are you from? In MY multiverse, cable started out as a way to bring OTA programming to remote locations, warts (commercials) and all.

Then came Home Box Office and pay-per-view events, and the next thing you know, the formerly empty bandwidth was full of local government channels, Discovery, Food, Lifestyle, Turner Broadcasting and Classic Movies, CNN, Headline News, The Toe Jam Channel, Sports News, Sports Gossip, Sports Sports, Sports Replays, The Animal Channel, The Monkey Channel, The Insect Channel, The Home Shopping Network, The Show Hopping Network and ultimately, the Channel Channel.

I exaggerate a bit, but Cable (aka Community Antenna) originally worked because when you were stuck out on the Llano Estacado or down in the holler where a TV antenna was useful only to the birds needing a place to sit and poop, you were willing to pay a couple of dollars a month so you didn't have to watch the local news jabber on about wool prices and cattle feed.

The only other interesting attractions at the park are the Nintendo ones, and they're all bad. MK is trash, Yoshi is a joke, and DK is just single coaster elements split apart by brake zones.
Yoshi is literally a child’s people mover, but I agree it needed to be longer

Mario kart agreed. I just think the problem is not the attraction itself but that you really can’t replicate the frenetic pace of actual Mario kart as a ride

Loved DK. Too short though. So wouldn’t wait more than 30 minutes for it.

Surprised you didn’t mention MoM. HP isn’t my cup of tea but it’s very well built

Now that you mention it…cable brought Mario Lemieux into my house 25% of the nights each year…so it was probably worth the cash 🤔

Monsters is the best ride there
