News Josh D’Amaro Named Next CEO of The Walt Disney Company

Do we know how many decades D,Amaro intends to stay?
No we don't, but COP is not going away till the 2040s at the possible earliest time frame. Also Josh is in his mid 50s right now and he'll be turning 70 in 2041. I have a hard time seeing still being CEO when he's 75 in 2046.

I think its more likely to see Walt Disney's Enchanted Tiki Room going away from Magic Kingdom. My reasoning with Walt Disney's Enchanted Tiki Room going away is due to rumors earlier this decade about Moana replacing it. Don't be shock if Walt's classic attraction goes away at some point.

Also Swiss Family Robinson Tree house is more likely to go away from Magic Kingdom than COP considering how dated Swiss Family Robinson is as an IP.

I think many of you doubters will be pleasantly surprised in the future by Josh’s balanced approach. I have a close mutual friend and feel optimistic that he will do well. He isn’t egotistical like Bob Iger and he is a well liked leader and has been his whole life. His career success has been the product of showing up and doing his job well. He understands there is a balance needed between shareholders and consumers. That balance was completely gone when Bob Chapek took over.

He knows he has to present himself a certain way as many have pointed out in this thread. The Josh you see isn’t necessarily how he is privately but part of his job is to connect with all of the fans/consumers. Give him a chance, he’s going to be a competent leader that will be more approachable by his employees than Bob was. He is financially literate but also recognizes the weight that he has to run a creative company that people genuinely love in a way most companies can’t relate to.

I hope you’re correct. But worry about the dynamics of the corporation and limitations he may have walked into without fully realizing where the walls are

Oh I think there’s a general consensus - even here - that his people skills are far beyond chapek and likely Iger as well.

That’s not “nothing”.

But the question is really who and how is he gonna serve?

That cringey interview on abc last night poured gas on the concern fire 🔥

It was like a kid deferring to Mom. Cringe
The CMs seem to love him even after he laid off 27,000 of them.

That’s not nothing!

I don’t think YouTube is at risk of going anywhere, it pulled in $60 Billion in revenue last year, for comparison motion pictures pulled in $34 Billion worldwide.

This is why I think D+ would be smart to offer a free (ad based) version, they could keep their paid versions also, YouTube offers a paid (ad free) version that continues to grow, I view the free version like the dealer giving someone a free sample to get them hooked so they buy more. Even if they never pay for the paid version as long as they keep watching the ads will make up for lost revenue.

YouTube is obviously a different beast in sheer scale. Disney will pull in at least 18B revenue from subscription fees this fiscal year, but only ~4B from advertisements. A free platform like Tubi is also currently doing 4B in advertisements.

Making a free ad-supported version would likely set the company backwards.

YouTube has been very impressive in how they’ve navigated uncharted waters

Strongly disagree, although I don’t think it’s amazing either. Hopefully as it grows and more investment is made it will reach the upper echelon. Needs more trees, no more coasters, and better sight lines
The only other interesting attractions at the park are the Nintendo ones, and they're all bad. MK is trash, Yoshi is a joke, and DK is just single coaster elements split apart by brake zones.

I thought it was incredibly well constructed…but horribly conceived and designed

Now that it’s been like 6 months…my immediate reaction changed.

It can’t handle people and is egregious on how you have to do it. Just to summarize: you basically have to pay a $300 a person line skip to have a good time…even if it doesn’t rain

That’s a $1500 for 4 park day. It would make Disney blush.

That’s just not a reasonable amusement park market…and relative to inflation it will probably get worse.
The dollar amount doesn't concern me as much of if it has value for my time. One of their TMs was asking how I enjoyed the park on the way out, I told them, they offered me another day, comped. I said there's no way I'd spend another day here. If it was $500 and I had a blast the entire day, I'd be okay with it. I've spent more on things that took less time (sports). But I spent a whole day there and could say I enjoyed about 7 minutes of it.
