MK Piston Peak and Villains Land Construction Thread

I don't think there's any reason to believe this is happening in the near term, and even if something does end up getting built back there in less than a decade or two, I can almost guarantee they haven't thought far enough in advance to know how they ought to design the connection to support future work with no existing plans.
Near term no. Mid to long term absolutely. From talking to people working on this project it 100% is being designed with that future expansion in mind.

I might be off but isn’t another option to enter Villains land be an entrance underneath the Frontierland train station around Big Thunder? I thought part of Park Ops request was to get rid of the dead end by Big Thunder? They will probably need to relocate the bathrooms there but that’s not a huge deal. This would solve multiple problems.
Because they plan to expand further back there in the future where the laydown yards are now. This would make that space easier to access in the future.
A new, larger Big Thunder Mountain Railroad maintenance facility was just built back there.

Yes so that would be my question for anyone who has been back there recently. I haven’t been back stage over there in at least 20 years. That would be a big clue if they are going to go this route. Does it seem like it was built at all for the potential to have guests be routed back there at some point? Obviously not today but I would think that would have been taken into consideration when they replaced it.

Appendix F in the old code format was specifically related to public access through areas under construction.

The travel distance requirement for restrooms is 403.3.3 of the 2024 EPCOT Plumbing Code. This also applies to the other park operators as Florida Building Code - Plumbing upon which the latest EPCOT codes are based has the same requirement in the same section.

There's a separate plumbing code? @lazyboy97o you know I like to collect the whole set!

It’s a big metal building with the trains now elevated. The exterior walls are insulated metal panels that would not be easy to add theming. The locks basin just to the north is also staying in place according to the water management drawings. They can always reconfigure things but there’s no indication that there is an intent to open the area to guests.

There are currently ten EPCOT codes, and that doesn’t include the Florida Fire Prevention Code which is itself two model codes pushed together.

Happy Reading!

If they buid villains land outside the railway berm, that would be like near 18 to 20acres? For 2 attractions that's a lot of land. But like they said. This will be the biggest most ambitious magic kingdom expansion ever. One thing we learn is Encanto and Monsters show buildings are huge in size,so I think what they have planned for former R.O.A and the most popular theme park in the world is something to look forward to.

but haven't they said repeatedly that they are not building outside the berm?
And I don't quite get the equation that the size of the show buildings for two attractions in other parks are going to have any bearing on the quality of what they are building in the MK...I think it is way too early to say, espcially since we really have nothing official to base it on...We have no official info on what Villains land is even going to be right now except there may be 2 attractions, and one will be a Malefecint based coaster...the rest is still a mystery... I am still in the "cautiously optimistic" camp...

If that's a new RR stop, then they didn't build *the theme park* outside the berm. Any part of the station on the outside is outside, but it's probably just support beams and walls and not considered 'in' the Villains park. Guests would have no access to the far side of the tracks.

Also that whole "not being outside the berm" comes from clues that Josh dropped about the size of the new land. A size that fits nicely within the berm.

As I've said repeatedly, Disney certainly could go outside the berm. We just don't have solid evidence of it yet.

If they only go slightly into it do you think they’ll position themselves to eventually do a third land beyond big thunder?

So if the train tracks stay roughly the same area as is,then guests will look at a flat piece of carved dirt on there journey into villains land.
Let's face it, they really have not thought alot about what you see on the train...not since the original incarnation of the park...the scenery has dwindled....and now that EVERYTHING has been scrapped as far as scenery goes, they really need to start over fresh... and maybe add some truly engaging sets around the train line... This is the same problem they have with the Peoplemover... they both need some serious investment of new show sets...

They dont seem to care, they just keep taking away from it. They did nothing for the tron tunnel, they will do nothing here probably beyond some drive thru style landscaping. Sorry but many here keep talking as if were getting some major themed Villains station or something along the way. Will believe it when the train passes through it. TDO would love to scrap the train all together if they simply could. I hope to be totally wrong and that we do see a new station and or sets along the way, but....yeah they have made sure to keep dwindling it down to nothing with the train. Show means nothing here anymore like it use to....as for the people mover it has been left to rot show wise, (least it got the narration upgrade last year year before whenever it was) but they do take care of the future city model well.

I mean, the WDW train has kind of always been garbage in terms of scenery. It’s not dwindled, it’s just never been meaningfully improved. This is at least a potential opportunity for more interest to exist along the back third, not because they want to do anything but because it kind of has to happen to a certain degree as a matter of course given the nature of the project. That doesn’t mean it’s getting tons of consideration, but I imagine it will at least look fine and inherently be more than a long passage of trees as before.

The tron tunnel was a downgrade for the railroad - it could have been a positive.

But nothing about the WDW railroad scenery is garbage - the stretches of trees give you the feeling of actually traveling by train.
