Disney (and others) at the Box Office - Current State of Affairs

First estimates for weekend box office are in, gang! It was a slow weekend at the box office, despite 4 new movies coming out.

The notable thing here is Zootopia 2's resilience, it actually rose 9% from last weekend as it's the only family movie in the marketplace right now. And that means that Avatar 3 probably won't get to the domestic box office of Zootopia 2.

Oh, geez, you're right! I can never seem to keep track of those secondary studios Disney picked up from the Fox purchase. Like, 20th Century Studios.

I'll plug Send Help into the Command Center and we'll start tracking it with blinky lights. But from its first weekend, with an alleged production budget of $40 Million, it's not looking like it will break even for Burbank. 🤔

Final weekend tally is in for Box Office, gang!

Burbank's new movie, Send Help, didn't do well for its reported $40 Million production budget. It will need to get to $100 Million globally to break even, but overseas markets were minimal at only $8 Million against its domestic take of $19 Million.

Yet again, Zootopia 2 just keeps banking its huge box office haul, with a 12% rise from last weekend as the only family movie going for the past month.

So quiet!

Nothing really interests me lately. Mercy was fun enough. Probably more suitable for Netflix or prime.

Slight chance of seeing shelter. Not a snowball’s chance of seeing Melania. Don’t see anything good coming out for the next couple of weeks. Maybe we’ll do a screen unseen.

Saw Send Help last week, it was a fun time.

Saw Dracula last night, it was pretty good, I prefer the 1992 version, but it was still good.

Happy Super Bowl Weekend, gang! 🥳 🇺🇸

I'm bringing my famous Neiman-Marcus Dip to the party on Sunday. If you need a quick food offering for Sunday that fools your hostess to look like you really did something, Neiman-Marcus Dip is the way to go! Let it chill in a great looking ceramic bowl, and bring a platter of Ritz crackers and a sturdy spreading knife. The dip recipe was created in the 1950's by the manageress of the fabulous Zodiac Room restaurant at the Neiman-Marcus flagship store in downtown Dallas. It looks innocent enough for Ladies Who Lunch to imbibe, but it is actually very hearty and filling and fueled the ladies up for another round of shopping. Because of the bacon and cheese, men love it too.

Here's the recipe, but remember that presentation is everything! Make it look nice, don't just plop it in Tupperware.

Oh yeah, also Box Office previews are in for this big holiday weekend. As per usual for Super Bowl Weekend, the theaters are quiet. Just a few small movies are out. It will be interesting to watch Zootopia 2 hang on, as it's still the only family movie out there. Odd!

Not a snowball’s chance of seeing Melania.

I think you might be surprised. I had my arm twisted to go with friends, and I actually really enjoyed it! The info on how she and her staff plans for giant dinner parties and galas was fascinating. And the soundtrack to the whole documentary is fabulous; from The Ronettes and Motown to Disco to Tears for Fears. Great DC visuals and toe-tapping audio throughout, with a big dollop of lump-in-your-throat patriotism! 🇺🇸

Zootopia 2 simply over performed in China.

It's a decent movie. Nowhere near worth of being the highest grossing American animated film of all time, but whatever. Happy for those involved that it's doing well.

Just giving global audiences something they want that’s popular overseas.

No different than Minecraft movie hit the right memes and references to be the top domestic grosser for 2025 despite being rather awful.

Send Help with a decent hold of less than 50%.

Amazon’s flop of a documentary with a sizeable 67% drop.

Markplier’s Iron Lung with a solid drop as well but it’s already profitable on a $3M budget

Yep, no way that documentary makes its money back, not at $40M that Amazon paid for it and whatever they spent to market it.
