Being a Disney Influencer

An influencer needs the mentality of a.cheerleader. An undeterred loyalty and optimism in the belief that your contribution has a material impact on Disney.

Much like a high-school cheerleader in the stands crying after a loss where she believes her team would have won if only she had cheered harder.

So when do high school cheerleaders start getting 401Ks? 🤓

What is the purpose of distinguishing between a hobby and a for profit activity? I'm assuming so that people cannot write off all kinds of purchases as business expenses after saying "Oh, I hoped to sell my creations"? Because in the reverse scenario (i.e., you make an unexpected profit from what was genuinely supposed to be a hobby - someone offers you $20,000 for a piece of pottery you made because they just love it that much) I can't imagine it would make any difference, right? You make money, you owe the taxes, hobby or no.
Yes. If I want to be a Disney influencer, I might purchase an Annual Pass, eat at many of the restaurants, purchase Lightning Lanes, and throw in some nights at different resorts. I can then post about those things in the hopes of attracting a following and monetizing my content. I've incurred a few thousand dollars worth of business expenses that will reduce my taxable income - whether that income is generated from my content or from another job that is my primary source of income.

This is a fact sheet from the IRS that touches on some of these issues.

I have folks tell me regularly elsewhere in my life that I should become one of these ‘Influencers’.
I certainly have plenty of knowledge about the Parks, always have something to say about them, and have plenty of opinions on matters.
Seems a given, eh?

But no…I could never play the ‘kiss Disney’s tush’ role.
Nope.
I would tell it like it is, no face to the camera, and give an honest opinion.

Considering some of the things today’s Disney is doing…Mickey would probably prefer I not go that route.
But oh….the fun to be had if I did….tee hee…..

😈

Well there are some influencers who do tell it like it is and report things Disney probably dislikes seeing get out there. They are reporting honest opinions that aren't just fluff pieces. They don't hold back in fear of what Dis thinks of them. The consequences are that Dis doesn't hand out the freebies or gives them access to events/ attraction openings as they do to the strictly positive ones.

That said, there are a very select few I throw on for background noise. ParkPass TV, ResortTV1, JohnYChen spring to mind.

Vloggers…don’t influence this at all.
I wasn't addressing the vlogging/influencer aspect. I was just addressing his comment that he would advise people against going to Disney.

The only Disney vlogger that I ever watch really is ResortTV1 and that is just to see the parks when I can't be there. Other than that, Disney vloggers are just really not a part of my world.

But this is my issue (be shocked I have one 😱) with this whole thing…
We can discuss as adults and do a bit of public service and protect the young in the flock at the same time by NOT giving viability to this “I want to be an INFLUENCER when I grow up” nonsense that can get inferred…

It takes a lap or two before the game is learned in life.

the Brain isn’t even fully developed until beyond a lot of the time earned for people falling for this…science seems to believe.

But I like to look at things with my feet on the ground…to each their own.

The first live stream I ever watched was due to a link another member posted on this site. It was a link to a stream of the MK reopening during Covid.
It was ResortTV1, and I watched the entire rest of that stream.
Before that, I really didn’t even know live streams and vlogs existed.
After that I watched them often, discovered there were many others streaming/vlogging same, and watched whoever was on at the time, whenever I had some free time, instead of regular TV.
Once I retired, about 2 years ago, I almost always watched between doing things around the house, errands, etc.
During that time we also had 2 family (including our 2 young granddaughters) trips planned for early October of ‘23 and late June/early July of ‘24. Definitely all the more reason for me to watch, in my mind anyway.
Sometimes one live streamer would be the only game in town at a certain time on a certain day, other times they’d overlap.
But, as time passed, I simply became more and more bored with it all. All these streamers/vloggers running around doing, pretty much, the same thing time after time.
I first started getting bored with the parades. The one guy would first catch it in Frontierland, and then haul it to Town Square to catch it again there…started to drive me bat stuff crazy.
Then it just kinda’ snowballed from there, and I haven’t watched any Disney streams or vlogs even remotely close to all the way through in ages.
My wife and myself, as well as our 3 grown children, are lifelong Disney fans, but, over time, it just became too much.
Plus, there are just too many of them, and, eventually, their little quirks just started grating on my nerves, not to mention the constant money-grubbing.
No Disney trip for us this year anyway, as we’re heading to Europe.
Too many new things going on at WDW now, that won’t be completed for years, for us to care at this point.
If we do plan another Disney trip again, in a few years, I’m sure I’ll probably start watching some again, just to kinda’ catch up on the latest developments.
