News Avatar Experience coming to Disneyland Resort

The pin could be confirmation that its closure is imminent or it could be a red herring, I can't tell.

Yeah I'm on the fence too. Might just be an odd coincidence that to happens to be celebrating it's 20th.
ot moving Monsters Inc there, but building something new of the same style. Luca and friends in the Italian seaside or Turning Red "Oops I Panda'd again" Adventure or whatever.

All the talk about turning that area into an extension of Coco but Coco will have its own section in Pixar Pier proper. Not sure to what extent but it very well could utilize more backstage area then we realize and/or or take over the boardwalk games through the Bandstand. It would kind of make more sense to leave Paradise Gardens as a multi purpose / multicultural flex space or like you mention here perhaps add some attraction themed to Turning Red or Mulan (not that I'd particularly care for either) that would feel organic to the Lunar New Year area. You could also split the difference and retheme Boardwalk Pizza to Coco and have the corridor next to Goofys through Garden Grill be the flex space that it is today. No matter how you slice it Goofys space could be better utilized whether it be for a dark ride, a more robust extension of a Coco mini land or flex space that exists today with new eateries.

In Monsters they turned one dark ride into a new dark ride so the experience comes off as more natural. In Mermaid, which reclaimed theater space, you can feel the compromise. Too many corridors with vignettes in alcoves. Whoever designed Winnie The Pooh across the way ought to have been consulted, as the space there is better utilized. Mermaid still has its charms, but I think it tends to get the "it's DCA" pass that a lot of attractions there are graced with.

They knocked the theater down to build mermaid did they not? They only kept the rotunda in my memory.

Yes, everything is new except for the Palace of the Fine Arts rotunda. You can see it being demolished/built in Google Earth:

Interesting. So then my point still stands. Much More of blank slate than Monsters. Unless we’re saying the plot of land is an awkward shape for a dark ride of that it’s not large enough.
It's absolutely big enough. Little Mermaid is about 33,000 square feet, including outdoor queue space and the rotunda.

The building that houses Peter Pan, Mr. Toad, and Alice in Wonderland (including the outdoor portion of Alice), plus their queues, plus restrooms, plus two (?) shops, is also about 33,000 square feet

It's not an issue of space. It's an issue of how the space was allocated.

Wild. But of course they can’t really build attractions like that anymore with current laws/ regulations from what I understand. Regardless, they dropped the ball with Mermaid and it could/ should have been better.

I remember going on TLM the day it opened. I didn't follow park news closely back then, so I didn't know what to expect. But it turned out to be the most underwhelming experience I've ever had at DLR. I know I'm not the target audience for that attraction, but even my GF at that time, who was a big TLM fan didn't talk about it the rest of the day.

Maybe I’m using this wrong… but I’m getting Monsters Inc at around 29,000 (almost 30) sq ft.

Now I’m not saying they would get rid of all this food, and seating… but if they used this plot (assuming the other chunk is Coco), could they not fit a reworked Monsters Inc and food here?

I don’t think moving an old ride would be worth the resources for them. That would be 100’s of millions spent for a net gain of 0 rides. Not to mention less seating/ restaurants.

Theoretically, but the question I've had since this topic was brought up is, why? Why remove Goofy's just to move Monsters Inc, that is a waste of money and Park space in my opinion. If they are going to remove Goofy's then they might as well just do something new and fresh rather than just moving an existing attraction from one end of the Park to another.

Sure absolutely.

My general point would be that there is room, and Goofy’s could go one day.

Yeah, this conversation has been had before, in both this thread and in the Coco thread (and probably others). The Goofy area is prime for a redo. At one point discussions were had about what if Disney puts a Mystic Manor type attraction in that corner. So its large enough to fit a pretty large attraction of various scale depending on what around it is willing to be lost.

The real question though is would Disney be willing to block many of the views into DCA from the premium rooms on that side of GC? They wouldn't be able to charge the premium rates anymore as they would be blocked by any show building that would go there. So yeah anything that would go there would be smaller in nature I would think. Its why I often wonder if that is where the start of the bridge for DLForward would go. We often thought it was going near the now Coco location on the Simba side of PPH. But what if they start at Goofy's and cut across on the other side of PPH and land somewhere near the existing DTD Parking lot. Just thoughts...

It would be an upgrade over GSS. But if the rumor about DHS getting the DCA MU animatronics/ props is true, then I assume DLR is getting some backend funds allocation from WDW for those assets. Just a guess tho since we don't know for sure.
