I wouldn't be opposed to a redo of the Pier, but I would think it still remains a pier unless they are going to remove that entire section and redo it from the ground up.

They sort of already have done that within the larger Pier neighborhood, you have the Incredibles Neighborhood, the Toy Story Neighborhood, the Inside Out Neighborhood, and now finally the Coco Neighborhood.

Yeah, they've already (in their minds) 'glowed up' the pier. This is DCA's Fantasyland and it's how it's going to be for a good long while. Maybe in another ten years color schemes will change again. Rollercoaster tubes might go back to blue. Some attractions will be rethemed in time (UP swings anyone?) But the pier is mainly going to stay the way it is.

Daps Magic posted a really nice walk-through of Paradise Gardens today, which I appreciate being out of state and really not having spent much time in there: Here

The inside of Boardwalk Pizza is actually pretty cool, forgot about that. As much as I would like Coco themed F&B it would also be kind of a shame to lose that look in there, it was well done.
I agree its nice but its pretty generic at this point if you ask me, kinda of a holdover from the original Paradise Pier theme. I think it would be more beneficial to the area if its rethemed to Coco since the overall vibe of the area has already changed and will be changed with Coco.

I've also never eaten at Boardwalk Pizza & Pasta. On that note, pizza restaurant sales are falling across the US:

Once the second-most common U.S. restaurant type, pizzerias are now outnumbered by coffee shops and Mexican food eateries, according to industry data. Sales growth at pizza restaurants has lagged behind the broader fast-food market for years, and the outlook ahead isn't much brighter.

A fully realized Pizza Planet along the Pier makes a lot of sense though.

Pizza is comfort food, whoever is saying that the US is falling out of love with pizza is crazy, as the US goes through trends. But that is like saying that Americans are falling out of love for wings just because Buffalo Wild Wings is having a down year. Both are the number 1 and 2 (flip flop constantly) eaten foods during Super Bowl. Certain foods will just remain comfort foods in the US even if the overall sales of restaurants are down.

I think DCA should have pizza somewhere, I just don't know if it should be next to the new Mexican themed attraction.

Interesting article, especially seeing the trends. Obviously with Bakery and Mexican on the rise, the future is in MEXICAN CHOCOLATE CAKE! 🤣

I’ve always had a soft spot for Boardwalk Pizza for two reasons.

1. It reminds me of going to Monte Carlo deli in Burbank with my mom as a kid and smelling the Goomba food from the attached Pinocchio’s restaurant.

2. It’s always a respite from the crowded parks and walkways. You walk in there and it’s blissfully empty. No one competing for your spot or that soda machine. And the AC smacks you in the face when it’s hot outside.

The question is would a Coco quick service feel like Rancho Del Zocalo or something cheaply themed with Pixar iconography like most of Pixar Pier?
It certainly could. I think the question is whether they go referential or go for immersive (it's a pier amusement park leveraging an IP or are you transported into the IP). Going for immersive would certainly be out-of-the-norm at Pixar Pier. But the Coco ride itself is going to be immersive, so...maybe.
