News Disney Lakeshore Lodge (Project 89 - Development near Fort Wilderness)

That's the concern I have. This feels much more akin to Disneyland Paris' hotels with even less theme. I have to wonder if, in 20 years, this will look very dated. These are certainly not timeless designs, let alone iconic architecture. I guess it brings it in line with many other timeshares in the area. But, other than the IP and location, there is becoming less and less difference between DVC, Marriot Vacations, Hilton Vacations, etc. it seems.
Not to mention there are many off property Hilton (and I'm sure Marriott) properties that are nearly as convenient as being on property. Plenty new Disney Springs, Flamingo Crossing, etc. They are beautiful, renovated, nice properties. The new DVC builds are in many ways indistinguishable from a nice Hilton or Marriott, save for maybe a piece of artwork or two which is just not enough to me. Disney used to be about immersion and out of this world design. It's just not that case anymore unfortunately. But it should be the case when you consider the difference between the properties is dwindling so much yet the price chasm is as huge as ever.

Yes, location matters, but an extra $500 a night to be slightly closer to a park/parks may be a hard sell with so many compelling other options.

Tbh it's a shame that any new hotel built by Disney is going to probably be a DVC hotel. I've never stayed at wilderness lodge or anything simply due to the pricing. After staying at swan reserve, even if it's technically not a Disney property, I found that it rivaled POFQ for me.

I really like the look of this resort but still don’t like the location, WDWs main benefit was supposed to be its size but over the last decade they’ve been building everything so close together, it makes no sense.

Tearing down part of The Caribbean to build the Riviera made no sense, totally changed the the feel of the resort (and not in a good way imho), then built the Grand Floridian DVC a few feet away from the wedding pavilion, then to add insult to injury built the Polynesian DVC a few feet away on the other side… what used to feel like individual resorts is starting to feel like one mega resort with no open space or separation.

I think my biggest beef with this resort is there’s room to move it west, it would have had the same size shoreline but would have left space for a tree buffer and kept it separated from Fort Wilderness instead of encroaching on it.

It’s a small detail but I think would have made a giant difference.

The size of the resort doesn't mean that the hotels were supposed to be massively dispersed in remote locations. The Seven Seas Lagoon, for instance, was always intended to be ringed with even more hotels than it currently hosts. The issue is more that the newer builds are generally towers regardless of whether or not that conceptually meshes with the resort theme, and the exterior levels between the lobby and the roofline only ever receive the saddest of attempts at theming.

So this is supposed to be more upscale ? What’s with the A frames ? Is that supposed to copy some of those types of homes along the Michigan lake front ?
Large and small(er) A-frame cabins along the lakeshore. The theme seems to be more lodge-centric and forest-y than Michigan lake front.

This will definitely be positioned as a Deluxe.

The A frames are cabins shaped like tents on the water. It was in the original Reflections concept art.

I feel like the location would be more forgivable if they had a unique transport option (train) that connected central Fort Wilderness, Reflections (and by proxy, Hoop-Dee-Doo), and Wilderness Lodge to the TTC...

Once this project is complete, it'll be interesting to see where the next hotel is built.

I have no inside knowledge, but if I had to guess, I'd predict at/near the front of EPCOT, on The Venetian Resort plot, or adjacent to Villains Land. I think the Villains Land option is maybe more likely than the others, but given Villain's Land is still 3-5 years away (at least), there will likely be some other hotel on property that opens before then. I feel like they NEED more Value class hotels on property, but that wouldn't be in any of these locations (maybe put another value hotel near DAK to help [further] justify a secondary transport option in that region of the property?)
