Some interesting thoughts. LucasFilms should have thought of some of those things beforehand.

The sequels could have been or should have been closing out the OT. Maybe in the last one have the hand off the torch but KK decided against that. Had they done that the could have avoided the great divide in SW.

As far as why you described? So basically Star Trek lower decks?

Those are TV shows IMO, not films. Which ironically what has also gotten Disney/LF into trouble.
Some solid TV shows would be great, but it doesn't all have to be.

Just using familiar properties for illustrative purposes, but I feel like there is room for a Band of Brothers and a Hacksaw Ridge of Star Wars.

Here’s the thing. Can you tell those stories otherwise? Do they NEED to be in the SW universe?

The last ten years or so of SW Directors and producers have failed to grasp that just putting the SW name on a movie isn’t enough.

Good question, and to be honest, I don't think I could provide a great answer.

In terms of a general direction, I would like to see them focus on new characters if sticking to the known timeline. Show me the story of the Tie pilot and how they ended up with the Empire. Give me the story of one local resistance group and their efforts. Follow a field medic crew for the rebellion or republic. A repair crew and what they have to do to secure supplies and keep the rebel fleet going.

What I don't want is...
- Them trying to recontextualize existing characters ala Solo or the ST.
- Them retconning the story as it currently sits. Not that the story didn't end up being bad, but it feels ridiculous to try and change it now.
- Jedi/Sith or anyone that uses the force in general as the main focus (that include Force Witches and weird incestuous God Families... looking at you Filoni). We have covered this ground pretty extensively and it is repetitive.

Oh, and no Space horses galloping on Star Destroyers that have giant mechanical planet killing genitals slapped on their underside.
The real problem/question is would the general public care? Isn't the lowest viewed Disney show the one that did exactly this (Andor)? The general public wants light saber duals, and good guys vs super powered beings.

Very wise people have repeated for 50 years that Luke Skywalker is the backbone of the whole thing…

It was never grumpy Harrison or good times carrie or boba fett 🙄

But I don’t know if trying to retcon the mistakes made can ever work.

They can’t do movies right…and are painfully much worse at tv.
going back and recasting and redoing movies/stories is just living in the past. The best thing they could do with the series is move on. Also, please get away from all the Jedi junk. It's been done over and over and over and over....
I'm only speaking for myself so this is a very small focus group. But I'm an OG Star Wars fan in my 50s.

The Prequel Trilogy is where things went wrong for me: the bad acting for Anakin, and ridiculous Jar Jar, the overly-complicated politics stuff, and dumb droid humor...ugh.

I actually don't need new stories about new characters in new corners of the galaxy -- yet. I first need to go back to the root of my disillusionment and "fix" the wound that is the PT. I want a TV series version re-telling the story of Anikan's youth and fall called Skywalker. The canon can all stay the same, but I want great scripts and acting, a fleshed out love story/relationship, a kick- Jar Jar, and I don't mind all the political intrigue if it's done in an adult, modern streaming-show way. I want Filoni and team to confront the most straight-forward, no-B.S., no hiding behind new galactic-crap challenge. They need to show they have what it takes to run Star Wars by delivering Anikan's story the way it deserves to be told.

Andor is not the lowest viewed tv show. Is that what you're saying?

SW at its best should appeal to both children and adults. But it's okay if some shows target one end of the spectrum.

Kids do want to see light saber fights and powerful beings... Some older fans want that too, but most also have an appetite for something more substantive.

Oh, I am sure they will make whatever they think appeals to the most folks so I am sure we will see more of the same mid to low tier junk we have mostly been getting.

Filoni thinks Lucas did everything right
He doubles down on that over and over again

Things may not improve…but I never expected them too after Disney didn’t stop the bleeding in 2017 and chose to shut down movies altogether instead. Obviously no fans of the story in the management…ever

I don't want to sell the place making and effort that goes into that short, but no story told in Star Wars needs Star Wars. It is just a wrapping for stories, most of which have already been told over and over in different settings.

The last ten years or so of SW Directors and producers have failed to grasp that just putting the SW name on a movie isn’t enough.
Interesting. I look at it from the other side and feel their problem is they believe they have to make a "Star Wars" movie instead of a movie set in the universe of Star Wars. My example for how they should do this is Andor. For me, it is the best content to come out of LF post OT and it is a political spy thriller set in the Star Wars universe.

I thought it was the lowest viewed of the SW shows, though admittedly I just remember hearing that a while ago, so maybe there were others? I don't know, I had absolutely no interest in it and then kind of stopped paying attention to the D+ releases outside of Ashoka.

It's very hard to say, that's why it's so interesting. This is still 100% a Kennedy film. So most of the people who were against her, will know it's still under her watch. So they probably will wait unless the word of mouth is great. The average Joe? Most wont have a clue so it will be interesting to see if it grabs the random moviegoer. It's also "baby yoda" that alone could push it forward even if it's closer to season 3 of mando, instead of 1 or 2. So in the end, who the heck knows. Personally I'm at wait and see. But a solid trailer could turn me.
I think it would have to have at least one original trilogy character in it (not Boba Fett) in order to start to win back the fanbase.

I agree with this….. we have your prequel defenders…. But for us who grew up with the original trilogy… I remember the utter dissatisfaction among us gen xers….. my most disappointed theater experience personally….. the bones of the origin is there…. But everything else in the filmmaking of the PT was wrong

I believe by the. 2nd season ratings improved….it was a slow burn for some to get into…. But by the end some original haters turned around

Well, that's wrong. Maybe take that as a hint that plenty of fans also enjoy more mature storytelling.

They were terrible

What Gen X struggled with then…and still to this day with…was our loss of “innocence”.

We grew up with Star Wars as the “can’t miss”. It was inconceivable
Now there are more misses than hits:

Which probably we’ll take with us for the rest of our days.

Andor season 2 was awesome…but I wouldn’t use streaming rankings as proof of much of Anything.

It doesn’t translate to money…which is why we have 12 different streaming services now trying desperate to jack prices to make a buck…lead by king Bob

There’s no “there” there
