News Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge at Disneyland Gets Darth Vader in Major Timeline Expansion

Star Wars movies aren't very realistic....music throughout and also there's a lot of noise from the laser blasts in space, where there would be no noise at all in reality (2001: A Space Odyssey got it right).

Anyway, I'm of the mind that great music can really elevate a movie from being "good" to "great" and the same with theme park lands.

It would be interesting to watch the original trilogy with all music removed to see what the experience would be like.
I feel like the laser blast sounds are the least problem with "realism" in Star Wars.

Functionally lightsabers make no sense but just like laser blasts, who cares? It's cool!

Let’s leave out the Williams slander. He’s the greatest popular film composer ever, if not on the Mount Rushmore of overall film score composers. He lost the 1978 Academy Award for best score for Close Encounters to himself (for Star Wars) which can be defended but is also a travesty because his CEOT3K score basically functions as a lead character in the film. He’s the second most nominated person in Oscar’s history, behind only Walt Disney.
John Williams is the Bret Hart of movie music. He’s the best there is, the best there was and the best there ever will be.

John Williams and his music don't exist in the Harry Potter universe either. No one at Hogwart's is playing tracks from the score in their rooms. Yet they play the music prominently over at Universal in Wizarding World and it works just fine.
I was going to point this out, too. I don't believe anyone's complained about the "realism" of movie scores playing in the Harry Potter lands, and those areas are held up as the pinnacle of immersive theming.

If Disney had used music from the movies when SW:GE first opened, I'm guessing no one would've said a negative thing about it. The overall reception to the land might have even been better!

You know, I get it. I really do. I understand everything you have said and I know why they haven't wanted to just play the tracks from the score throughout Galaxy's Edge. And it makes sense.

But, that being said... I just can't bring myself to care. Seriously. I would be perfectly happy to hear the London Symphony Orchestra playing throughout Galaxy's Edge, and I think many other Star Wars fans would too. I know it makes no logical sense, as John Williams and his music doesn't exist in the Star Wars universe, but it would still just feel right.

Think about it this way as well.
There would be no musical score to be heard if movies were "real."
But we absolutely love and expect musical scores in films.
So why not in a themed land?

Wonder if we will ever see ROTR rethemed to OF trilogy. Also still think we need and Endor Speed Bike Coaster!

This would be pretty herculean right? New filming with actors for almost every aspect of the experience (each preshow, holding rooms, in-ride characters), swapping Kylo Ren AA for something else, etc.
That ride concept would be an operational nightmare

I’ve always been a fan of the never actually conceived xwing coaster…long spoke about on boards for 30 years

I saw a neat comment on the Provost Park Pass video announcing the timeline changes. GlassJoe1337 suggested they add "live" feed of pod racing on screens in a SWGE eating place. As an OT Star Wars fan with little love for the Prequel Trilogy, I still thought this was a super clever way for them to bring in an element from the PT that would work fine for an OT timeline (assuming, by canon, pod racing was still happening years later). I went to Wookiepedia to check and the info there was interesting, with references to Batuu:

"...Races could then be projected in entertainment establishments throughout the galaxy... During the Galactic Civil War, by the time of the skirmish on Hradreek, rumors of humans winning podraces were heard of in the Outer Rim systems... Podracing was outlawed by the New Republicdue to its dangerous nature a long time before 9 ABY. Despite this, the sport was still practiced on certain remote worlds such as Batuu and Vespaara..."

What I liked about this comment was not only how a unique PT element could be introduced to SWGE but how it could add the lively fun and energy the land needs.

Knowing Disney, they would charge some guests a premium to actually play a pod racing game in a racing simulator off-stage, and then broadcast that. But whether they did that or they were pre-animated, it could be fun to root for certain pod racers while dining and have some of that sports bar energy.

Of course if they built an actual pod racing attraction that would be even better, but many years off I imagine.

And most importantly, a crazy easy add. I hope the Mickey shadows scouting this forum report the idea back to Mouse Corp. It sounds like a swell idea, adding some needed kinetics, engagement and theming all in one long-looping video.

John Williams music... my opinion...

I like the idea of the original scores being in the land... but not all the time. Let the themes pop up, crescendo, then fade. Then come back 10 minutes later.
Agreed, success is not about blasting the theme at full volume, all the time, it's about using it like a movie score, bringing it in and out for maximum impact, hopefully blended with ambient sounds (ships, droids, etc.). But there are so many SW musical themes and even diegetic pieces heard in the movies, several dozen compositions probably, so there's a lot to use in different locations for different moods and energies.

Those are pretty good ideas

But not a ride…the prequels still sucked, kids…no sense in calling attention to an event that split the fanbase in half…which Disney has not destroyed with an atom smasher

But some integration would work well

As much as I want a splashy new E-ticket (very much so), it will be more interesting to me to see if they can achieve a lot of improvement with a lot of small, cheaper additions like that person's idea, in the meantime. Every area of the land should have an "only in Star Wars" element. So, for example, Docking Bay 7 is cool. But it's not "own-able" by Disney. It of course uses aesthetic motifs evocative of Star Wars, it doesn't "go against" Star Wars, but those motifs and aesthetics, are not proprietary. They're essentially public domain. An "only in Star Wars" improvement program would add an element (like that "live" pod racing broadcast) to make the place proprietary. Doing that throughout the land, where necessary would go a long way to making SWGE feel more Star Wars-y.
