News Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge at Disneyland Gets Darth Vader in Major Timeline Expansion

Parsing really

Both don’t meet longterm operational goals
How is it parsing? What about the existing ride content does not meet these nebulous "long-term operational goals" you just made up? Which characters must show up in this attraction instead of elsewhere in the land, and what is critical mass? It's already teeming with storm troopers, AT-ATs, droids, starships, and just about everything that makes it a quintessentially Star Wars experience to the casual observer. It's odd to me that people want a re-skin haphazardly stuffed into the existing framework when Disney's track record with retrofits is so poor.

Because they’re having to retheme a ride and now the character association in 6 years

This is a company who spends $1,000,000 on a park bench and expects not to touch it for 40 years.

I know revisionism is heavy here…but let’s just not

The lands are well constructed…but they haven’t hit. It’s not that they wrecked the studio or that the lands are lifeless…

Which are both true…it’s more they drag each other down.

Because those movies failed. They scored “event” box office…but then were forgotten in a minute. That’s what they plugged into the land and can be fixed rather easily…

The whole reason to buy Star Wars in the first place is because it remains popular overtime. They made the most anticipated “sequels” in the history of film…and they can’t touch them with a 100 foot pole. They aren’t ever mentioned by Disney.

Disney first fans seem not to grasp how catastrophic that is on the failure scale.

It’s prequel times about 5.

This has been almost a complete disaster from a business standpoint

Cool. That doesn't explain how going to the expense of changing Rise specifically would positively impact your nebulous long-term operational goal (which you won't or can't quantify) in a meaningful way beyond what simply unmooring the rest of the land from the timeline will already do.

The OT would draw in more interest and cash from the most lucrative demographic for the next 10-20 years…maybe longer?

Is my working theory

Right, that is why the OT is being added to the land. But how does, say, Darth Vader showing up in Rise do something that simply putting Vader and his merchandise in the land doesn't already do? Whatever the flaws of the sequels, Rise can't presently be made much more popular than it already is, and attempts to shoehorn different narratives into existing infrastructure have not gone well in the past. There's risk in altering what is already a major draw (at least in WDW), whereas there's almost zero in adding the desired characters to the land and leaving the already successful thing alone.

Fair points…can’t argue to much with that

Rise actually looks more like Jedi than any other Film…if you swap out the characters and the videos.

I’ve never believed that is a complete coincidence.

But what would really hit…is Something with more teeth/g force. It’s what has been missing for 40 years in parks. It’s a series that is 50% character and 50% action…and Johnny Williams…

And they have done sims and a dark ride. Kinda silly…you can put Isaac Newton in the game on anything with a 40” height requirement.

Just spitballing. A new ride would be better

But they put it in the wrong park in Anaheim…which means that’s probably never gonna happen

I always, and still support that they chose to build an Ambiguity Land.
My issue - as most of us here share - is that it is largely dead and uninhabited.
Adding the OT characters, particularly Vader is long overdue.
Kylo will never have the iconography that Vader has.
"Ambiguity Land" is now my 3rd favorite thing in the world.

I honestly don't think so. As cheap as Disney is if OT stuff sells better, they will lean into it as much as possible
Maybe they would. Maybe they wouldn’t. I don’t think it would make sense given this parks capacity issues that are currently exacerbated by the construction happening.
