News Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge - Historical Construction/Impressions

They really need to free Darth Vader from the Visa photo op back room in Launch Bay.

Video I watched today claims that prison will now be holding Kylo Ren (who will no longer walk around the land).

That bit felt odd to me. I wonder why not just schedule certain characters to be out at certain times in certain areas and make sure they don't overlap (the same way you don't have two Mickeys or Goofys accidentally out)?

Or, if they wanna just drop the charade about caring about canon, etc. altogether, just say "screw it" and break open the dam a la Star Wars weekends at Hollywood Studios where you had Padme dancing alongside Darth Vader. 🤣

Vader could treat Kylo as an annoying grandkid.

this feels a lot like the galactic starcruiser in that disney swung, missed, and they're now admitting defeat while trying to keep their dignity intact - and seeing them backtrack on what was a genuinely unique and innovative idea is not a great thing in my mind. they're giving up on innovation and commitment to story in favor of iger's mandates to keep things as safe as possible in all aspects
My take is quite different. SWGE was a swing and a miss. They're de facto admitting defeat, and that is fantastic. A wrong and stubborn Disney is the worst Disney. Sticking with something that doesn't satisfy guests because it's "innovative" or as a "commitment" to something guests don't value represents Disney employees satisfying themselves, their legacies, their portfolios, and is not what fans are paying for.

A Disney that can learn and admit mistakes and correct mistakes is a company I can love.

Generally I think this is being done correctly and how it should have originally been structured. A sweep of timelines. They finally have the right theoretical density of characters to make the place feel more alive.

In an ideal world:
-Their sit down restaurant
-A coordinated daytime entertainment offering - stunt show, Jedi training revival, whatever.
-A Star Wars Enchanted Tiki Room/Country Bears concept on the left flank out behind Pooh (even give @mickEblu his Ewok).

Then the more expensive thing would be an OT attraction on the right flank that would require more back stage shenanigans.

gonna be the odd one out here and say that i'm disappointed that disney is going in this direction. we all know hyperspace mountain will continue to return to tomorrowland regardless so why not keep all of the non-story-specific stuff there?

(but i am also the biggest fan of light magic so maybe i'm just interested in innovative concepts doomed to fail)
If I can put on my tinfoil hat for a moment. There is no real reason to keep OT in TL at this point.

This could be the first domino of "getting SW out of TL" for the eventual redo in a couple years. Move all SW into GE (something many had been saying needs to happen anyways) and that leads the way to clear that path for a new TL.

I wouldn't be surprised if we don't hear something about all this at D23 in August.

I understand this perspective. However, I do think that the original land suffers because they decided to place the “immersive” world in the ST purely for corporate synergy reasons, and then (in the case of star cruiser and GE) cut down the innovative parts of the ideas for budget reasons.

I guess my point is Disney “gave up” on GE well before it opened.

I am glad that they finally broke the calendar here.

But, and not to be overly pedantic, there will now be *three* (or 2 1/2?) timelines represented in the land:

- ROTR still locked to sequel era
- MFSR’s new missions will be post OT, pre-sequel era (though possibly contemporaneous with sequels)
- OT walkarounds

I wonder how this will affect the merch, which for the most part has been restricted to sequel era merch.

Making Millennium Falcon more like Star Tours could be part of that too.

I’ve always wanted an OT themed version of ROTR and it wouldn’t be hard for them to do if it ever happens down the road. Just have it take place on Vader’s Executor SSD and retheme the ST elements.

Falcon would probably be quite easy, they could simply start by switching out the radar dish outside.

Micechat:
  • First Order Cargo will transform into Black Spire Surplus, reframed as a military salvage operation dealing in artifacts from across the galaxy’s past, including Imperial and Rebel-era items.

  • Dok-Ondar’s Den of Antiquities, already one of the land’s strongest locations, will rotate its collection to reflect different periods in Star Wars history (which frankly makes perfect sense for an antiquities dealer).

  • Droid Depot will feature an earlier generation of the Mubo family, experimenting with BB-style droid prototypes.

  • Savi’s Workshop will continue its lightsaber-building experience, with Luke Skywalker himself showing interest in the knowledge and artifacts protected by Savi’s Gatherers.

Do I dare point out that the circular dish was not knocked off of the Falcon until the final battle in Return of the Jedi? Why would Vader be walking around when he died during that battle?

And while I’m at it, do I point out that Poe’s black X-wing was destroyed very quickly after the destruction of Starkiller Base, not long enough for it to visit Batuu and have a whole Rise of the Resistance adventure?

Do I?

DO I?!?

No, that would be silly.
